Jimmy Kimmel Breaks Down in Tears During Touching Tribute to Don Rickles

by

Jimmy Kimmel shed plenty of tears, and even managed to get in a few laughs, while paying tribute to good friend Don Rickles, the legendary insult comic who died on Thursday at the age of 90.
“This is not going to be our usual show tonight, and I’m going to tell you right up front: I’m going to cry, which is kind of embarrassing but, well,
I’m not good with this sort of thing,” Kimmel warned his audience at the top of his show.
“We lost someone that I love very much today… Don Rickles passed away this morning, and he was 90 years old.
I know it sounds crazy to say he was too young, but he was… he was youthful and funny and sharp and generous, and I was fortunate enough not only to have Don on this show as my guest, but also to become close to him and his wife Barbara.
“I grew up in Las Vegas, so even when I was a kid, Don Rickles was a big deal,” he continued. “You’d see him on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson making fun of Johnny, making fun of Frank Sinatra…
People always wanted to hear Don tell Sinatra stories… but I told Don — this is honestly how I felt — the Sinatra stories are great, but if Sinatra was here, I’d be asking him for stories about you.”
After sharing a story about Rickles and Sinatra told to him by Bob Newhart, the waterworks truly began, as Kimmel told the audience about how Rickles agreed to be his guest at last minute after his Uncle Frank passed away, and how he helped both Kimmel and the entire Jimmy Kimmel Live staff heal in the wake of tragedy.

“They called him Mr. Warmth as a joke, but that’s what he was,” Kimmel said. “He would always ask about my parents, my kids… when my Uncle Frank passed away, I called him and asked him to be the guest on that show, which was a tough show, and he helped all of us through it.
He gave me advice — good advice, not the advice people give you just to hear themselves giving you advice. He would always say ‘keep my name alive,’ which I thought was funny because, you know, ‘You’re Don Rickles. You keep my name alive!'”
Kimmel then shared a handful of personal note cards he received from Rickles over the years, including a note he got in the mail after hosting the Academy Awards. Later, after sending his love to Rickles’ closest friends and family (including “step-daughters” John Stamos and Bob Saget), Kimmel queued up a montage featuring unforgettable moments from Rickles’ 17 appearances on the show.

‘Empire’ Actor Morocco Omari Arrested After Woman Accuses Him of Domestic Violence

by
Empire actor Morocco Omari was arrested this week in Chicago and accused of misdemeanor domestic battery after a woman claimed he shoved her to the ground, police tell PEOPLE.

Omari’s publicist dismissed the allegation as “blatantly false” and said he was “extremely confident” that the actor “will be completely vindicated in this matter.”

Chicago police say they responded to a call about 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, where a 24-year-old woman told officers that Omari had allegedly pushed her down to the ground multiple times during a verbal argument.

The woman said she suffered scratches to her chest and neck, according to police. She was identified by police as Omari’s girlfriend, though his publicist disputes that.

Omari, 46, was arrested Wednesday and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery, police said.

They said he was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, but his publicist tells PEOPLE that Omari has not appeared before a judge to enter a plea.

In a statement, Omari’s publicist said the actor “would like to thank his fans for their support,” adding, “[Omari] was brought up by his mother and grandmother and is the proud father of two minor daughters. He has long been an advocate of anti-violence against women.”

“He has never displayed any hint of violence toward women and never will,” the publicist continued. “Violence against women simply isn’t in Omari’s DNA.”

Omari plays Empires Tariq Cousins, an FBI agent and the half-brother of Terrence Howard’s Lucious Lyon.

He has previously appeared on Homeland and Person of Interest, among other series.

Scarlett Johansson Calls Ivanka Trump ‘Cowardly’ After CBS Interview

by
Scarlett Johansson is “disappointed” by Ivanka Trump and the role President Trump’s daughter is playing in his administration.

In an interview with Arianna Huffington at the Women in the World Summit in New York on Thursday, the Ghost in the Shell star admitted she’s “been thinking a lot about Ivanka Trump … very recently.” Johansson — who recently impersonated Ivanka on Saturday Night Live — brought up the first daughter’s interview this week on CBS This Morning.

“It was kind of baffling, I have to say; it was really baffling,” Johansson stated. “You can’t have it both ways, right?
If you take a job as a public advocate, then you must advocate publicly. … Yesterday, she said something that I found particularly disappointing,
which is that she felt that the greatest change she was going to make … would be behind closed doors, and nobody would actually know she made this change.”
Johansson was referencing part of Ivanka’s interview in which she dismissed the idea that she was “complicit,” telling CBS’s Gayle King that she “speaks up frequently” to her father.
“I don’t think that it will make me a more effective advocate to constantly articulate every issue publicly where I disagree,” Ivanka explained. “But I think most of the impact I have, over time, most people will not actually know about.”

Johansson quipped, “I thought to myself, ‘Well, that’s empowering!’”

She added, “How old-fashioned? This idea that behind a great man is a great woman. What about being in front of that person, or next to that person?
It is such an old-fashioned concept that to be this powerful woman, you know, you can’t appear to be concerned, that someone is going to think that you are b****y or a powerful woman, you know.
They get concerned with this idea that they are going to be seen in this unforgiving light and, you know, screw that. It is so old-fashioned, and it is so uninspired and actually really cowardly.”

Both Scarlett and Ivanka grew up in New York City and have met “several times.” The actress acknowledged the weird position Ivanka must be in as a daughter.

“I can’t imagine how complicated it must be to see your parent in this sudden position that he is in and know, deep down, that it is a position that he never really wanted,”
Johansson said. “Now he is in this position, and he finds himself there, and I think it must be — as a daughter and someone that looks up to a parental figure like that — it must be a unique and strange thing, but she has an opportunity to really make a big impact just by being vocal.”
Johansson continued, “I have met her several times in the past, and many years ago, and we both grew up in New York, and we have some friends in common.
And she is a very well-spoken and smart, intelligent woman, and I think engaging … but the whole situation baffles me.”

U.S. launches military strikes on Syria

by
President Trump unleashed airstrikes on Syria on Thursday to punish its strongman, Bashar Assad, after a chemical attack this week that killed dozens of civilians, including children.

The barrage amounted to the most significant military operation ordered by Trump, a newcomer to governing who had warned, before taking office, against escalating America’s involvement in the Middle East.
“Tonight, I ordered a targeted military strike on the airfield in Syria from where the chemical attack was launched,” Trump said in Palm Beach, Florida. “It is in this vital national security interest of the United States to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons.”
The operation — the first known direct American strike on Syrian government assets since the start of the country’s civil war — rained at least 50 cruise missiles from U.S. Navy ships in the Mediterranean on a Syrian airfield thought to be the point of origin for the chemical attack, U.S. officials said. The attack took place at 8:40 p.m. Eastern time.

The decision risked confrontation with Russia, Syria’s patron, which reportedly had troops stationed at the air base, and could mean increased dangers for hundreds of U.S. troops now in Syria to prepare for the assault on Raqqa, the capital of the Islamic State militant group. But it also sent a dramatically different message about Washington’s willingness to use force in Syria after Barack Obama shied away from enforcing his self-imposed “red line.”

The decision to dramatically escalate America’s role in a conflict that has left some 500,000 dead, according to human rights groups, was arguably the new president’s biggest decision yet, with many unknown consequences. At home, the early response from Congress suggested strong bipartisan support for the strikes but deep concern about the way forward. Some in Congress, including Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, said Trump should have sought authorization from Congress for a military operation that was not in response to an attack on the U.S.

Trump explained his decision by describing the horrific images from Tuesday’s chemical weapons strike in a mostly rebel-controlled area near the Turkish border, saying “there can be no dispute” that Assad’s forces were responsible.

“Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad launched a horrible chemical weapons attack on innocent civilians,” he said. “Using a deadly nerve agent,
Assad choked out the lives of helpless men, women and children. It was a slow and brutal death for so many. Even beautiful babies were cruelly murdered in this very barbaric attack.”
So “tonight I ordered a targeted military strike on the airfield in Syria from where the chemical attack was launched,” Trump said.
“It is in this vital national security interest of the United States to prevent and deter the spread and use of deadly chemical weapons.”

The president also urged “all civilized nations to join us in seeking to end the slaughter and bloodshed in Syria.”

Congressional Democrats offered measured support for the onslaught but warned that lawmakers would need to weigh in on any sustained escalation of the conflict. Some of the lawmakers delivering that message stood idly by while Barack Obama escalated America’s role in Iraq and Syria.

The top Democrat on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Ben Cardin of Maryland, said in a statement that “any longer-term or larger military operation in Syria by the Trump administration will need to be done in consultation with the Congress.”

Cardin also pressed Trump “to inform the legislative branch and the American people about his larger policy in Syria, as well as the legal basis for this action and any additional military activities in that country.”

Trump had huddled with top advisers, including Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Defense Secretary James Mattis and National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster in Palm Beach, Fla., where he was to hold meetings Friday with Chinese President Xi Jinping. In a sign of how quickly events were unfolding, White House officials had said just a day earlier that McMaster would not travel with Trump.

Tillerson told reporters that the president had begun a long, difficult and potentially fruitless effort to push Assad from power.
“The process by which Assad would leave is something that I think requires an international community effort, both to first defeat ISIS within Syria, to stabilize the Syrian country, to avoid further civil war, and then to work collectively with our partners around the world through a political process that would lead to Assad leaving,” he said. Pressed on whether he and Trump were working to assemble an international coalition to achieve that goal, Tillerson replied: “Those steps are underway.”

The secretary of state also had tough words for Moscow, Assad’s patron. “It is very important that the Russian government consider carefully their continued support for the Assad regime,” he said.

And he reaffirmed what senior U.S. officials have said since the world first saw footage and photographs of gasping, dying or dead children in Khan Sheikhoun in Syria’s northwestern Idlib province: Assad is to blame.
“There is no doubt in our minds and the information we have supports that Syria, the Syrian regime under the leadership of President Bashar al-Assad, are responsible for this attack,” Tillerson said.

"We will not accept any excuse that leaves part of this pension funds hanging- Dogara

by
Hon Yakubu Dogara, Speaker of the House of Representatives, on Thursday, urged the executive branch to ensure that all backlog of pension payments are promptly made, adding that no excuse will be accepted for failure to do so.
Dogara made this statement after the minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun and Minister of Budget and Planning, Sen Udoma Udo Udoma, briefed the House on efforts they had made so far to offset arrears owed to Nigerian pensioners.

The Speaker said he was confident of the promise made by President Muhammadu Buhari that non-payment of pensions to retired Federal civil servants will be promptly taken care of. He said payment of the 33 percent arrears, should be made preferably within a month.

He said:

"We will not accept any excuse that leaves part of this pension funds hanging. When the President made a commitment that he was going to release money for bailout to States so that they can pay backlog of salaries and pensions, it happened, even though we were in the midst of a very biting recession.
Now the President has said this issue of pension must be solved.
"I don't know where you got the money to bail out the states from, wherever you got the money from, that is where we are going to get the money to solve this problem. And for the ministers who are representatives of the president,
I believe you won't make him (Buhari) break his words because his words are cherished. I want to believe this will be the last intervention we will be having with regards to the issue of pensions in this country. That is my charge.
"The message the House will be sending to the President through the Ministers is, when you meet him to brief him about this engagement, just tell him that we have taken his words to the bank and we believe that we will cash it."
In his remarks, president of National Union of Pensioners (NUP), Dr Abel Afolayan, thanked President Muhammadu Buhari, Speaker Dogara and the House of Representatives for listening to their issues and taking action.

Outbreak Of Meningitis: What I Actually Said, By Gov Yari

by
Zamfara State Governor, Dr. Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar, denied attributing the outbreak of the deadly Cerebral Spinal Meningitis to God’s punishment arising from fornication and other forms of disobedience to God.

Rather, the governor said he actually lamented the paucity of appropriate vaccines to confront the outbreak of the fatal disease in his state and called for urgent assistance from relevant government agencies to contain the ailment.

The Governor, who spoke through his Special Adviser on Media and Public Enlightenment, Mr. Ibrahim Magaji Dosara, pointed out that he merely asked Nigerians to move closer to God and plead for his mercy to avert further infectious diseases and other health crises in the state and Nigeria since God has answers to all challenges.

The statement made available to Vanguard in Abuja, said, “The Governor noted that the situation was unfortunate because the state does not have enough vaccines yet for the Type C Meningitis.

“The governor thereafter enjoined all Nigerians to embrace prayers, as God who is aware of the outbreak of the ailment surely has antidote for it
. “The Governor specially appealed to Nigerians to make deliberate effort to be closer to God by shunning sins of fornication and other forms of disobedience so as to receive his divine health and other blessings, as he is closer to those who obey him and distant themselves from sins.
“No doubt, as a God-fearing man, and a Muslim, the governor believes in the powers of Allah to inflict whatever punishment He decides on the human race.
However, the governor who spoke in Hausa had a particular audience in mind when he spoke to the BBC Hausa reporter.
“The governor added for example, that fornication “should not spread so much in society that it becomes common place and if that happens, Allah promises to inflict, on its perpetrators (people) a sickness that would have no cure.”
“Let it be known too that the governor still insists that all diseases come from Allah and that at no point in his interaction with the reporters did he insinuate that Allah was punishing Nigerians but instead drew from the teachings of great Islamic traditions to buttress the point he was trying to convey.
“This is exactly what the Governor said. But because some people are out there to ridicule him at the slightest opportunity and make a mountain out of a molehill with a view to tarnishing his rising reputation, the innocuous statement was misinterpreted and quoted out of context for reasons best known to the authors.
“We therefore use this medium to appeal to all well meaning Nigerians to ignore the story making the round and condemn the act of unethical practice by those disseminating the deceptive story.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Zamfara State Government in conjunction with relevant federal government agencies is making frantic effort to contain the outbreak of meningitis in the state by taking immediate steps to secure appropriate vaccines for the latest health challenge.
“Let it be on record that the state under the leadership of Governor, Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari will not abandon the well being of the people, who elected him to pilot the affairs of the state for any other thing.
“As the saying goes, health is wealth, and the administration will not settle for anything apart from vigorously pursuing the overall well being of Zamfara people,” he said.

Blac Chyna Hits the Town Sans Her Engagement Ring One Year After Rob Kardashian's Proposal

by
What a difference a year makes. Though there have been lots of recent rumors that Blac Chyna and her ex Rob Kardashian have reconciled, the TV personality and model stepped out on Tuesday night without her giant engagement ring.

Chyna, 28, rocked a skin-tight black jumpsuit, leather coat, and heels, while enjoying an evening at TAO with a mystery man.

The outing was significant as it was just ahead of the one-year anniversary of Rob's public proposal, which the exes previously documented on social media and their reality series, Rob & Chyna.
The on-again couple split earlier this year, but continue to co-parent their daughter, Dream. Earlier this month, they were spotted getting cozy on Snapchat, as Chyna danced around Rob and even got a kiss on the cheek from him. They also enjoyed time with Dream together earlier this week.

But Rob was nowhere to be seen while Chyna had her night out, which ended with her getting into a white car with a male friend.

Other stars at TAO on Tuesday included Drake and Kardashian pal French Montana, who hung out with Chyna on Instagram several months ago.

A post shared by Blac Chyna (@blacchyna) on
Though Rob and Chyna have kept the status of their relationship under wraps, Chyna did speak with Cosmopolitan South Africa for the April issue, saying, "I feel like everything isn't going to be perfect, but I know we love each other and we're fighting for each other, and the people we surround ourselves with are rooting for us. It makes everything much easier."

Blue Ivy Steals the Scene in Beyoncé's Pics From 2016 Grand Canyon Trip

by
Now that’s what we call glamping! To celebrate her ninth wedding anniversary, Beyoncé recently took to her site to share never-before-seen pics of her family’s April 2016 trip to the Grand Canyon.

The luxurious vacation marked Beyoncé and Jay Z‘s eighth anniversary, but they brought their daughter, Blue Ivy, along for the ride — and, as per usual, the tiny tot stole the scene. (Remember her singing at the Grammys?)

It appears that their getaway included hiking the trails of the Arizona landmark, taking a helicopter ride, and lounging in a stunning resort with an infinity pool.

As you do. In practically every picture, the husband and wife snuggle close and look completely head-over-heels in love. They cuddle on a rock overlooking the canyon. They kiss. They stroll holding hands.

But those pics paled in comparison with the shots of little Blue. In one photo, she glances at the camera over a pair of X & O sunglasses. In another, she rocks a sombrero and a colorful top while she smiles coyly at the camera.
Where’s breakfast? Blue Ivy chillin’ at the table. (Photo: Beyonce.com)More

And then there’s the pic of her striking a pose, showing off her full ensemble: a sombrero, sunglasses, a colorful top, and jean shorts.

A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce) on
She’s got a dream-catcher in one hand and her other hand on her hip as she serves up some serious attitude. It’s also worth noting that she’s got her fingernails painted in all different colors. There’s no denying that ensemble is on-point.
A final shot shows the now-5-year-old tot posing behind a giant sunhat (her mom’s, most likely) — but even though you can’t see her face, her multicolored manicure is front and center … and check out that awesome doll with the hot pink hair chilling on the couch. This kid even has good taste in toys.

Beyoncé also took to Instagram to pay tribute to her marriage. “I don’t really need these fingers if I don’t get to touch your spine,” she wrote over a pic that showed their shadows holding hands.

As the world is already well aware, Bey and Jay are set to welcome twins to their family later this year. While there’s no doubt that the new additions will be an adjustment for everyone, we’re fairly certain that Blue Ivy has everything under control.

Mel B’s Sister Slams Her Ex Stephen Belafonte in Online Rant After Abuse Claims: ‘Rot in Hell’

by
Despite years of being estranged, Melanie “Mel B” Browns sister is sticking up for her in the wake of the former Spice Girl’s divorce and allegations of abuse by her estranged husband Stephen Belafonte.

Danielle Brown posted a scathing rant about her former brother-in-law on Instagram, claiming her sister’s family thought they would never see her again and celebrating that she’s kicked him our of her life.

“8 years of abusive calls me and my mum have had stating we would never see Melanie again,” Danielle wrote. “I am laughing and celebrating as you were wrong. you are a sorry excuse of a man !!
To the left to the left everything you own in the box to the left,” quoting the Beyoncé song “Irreplaceable.”

She also ranted that she hopes that Belafonte and the couple’s ex-nanny, whom Mel B claimed in a restraining order filing that Belafonte impregnated, “go to jail and rot in hell.”

A post shared by Danielle Brown (@missdaniellebrown) on
The sister also added a slew of hashtags labeling Belafonte a “wife beater,” “psychopath” and “criminal,” among other unflattering titles.

Belafonte has denied the claims to TMZ and said he is “shocked” by the allegations.

“I’m really, really - I’m really distraught in my brain how this is going to affect our children,” he told TMZ. “And the depths that she’s gone to. That’s it. That’s it. I’m shocked at those allegations and that’s what it is.”

He added: “We were friends two weeks ago and now all of a sudden the team gets around and now it’s got to be this?”

Neither Belafonte nor Brown responded to a request for comment from PEOPLE.

The passing of the sisters’ father appeared to bring them together for the first time in years. Amid rumors of the 41-year-old singer attempting to mend family drama, Danielle took to Twitter in February to respond.

“Just 2 put the record strait! Ive Not seen my sister for 8 years, there is no family reunion planned,it is what it is,” she wrote, adding the hashtag #dontbelivewhatyouread.

The America’s Got Talent, who rose to fame as Scary Spice in the British girl group Spice Girls, judge filed for divorce from her husband of nearly 10 years on March 20. The couple married in 2007 after five months of dating.

Mel B accused Belafonte of years of physical and emotional abuse in court documents obtained by PEOPLE.

Brown also claimed that Belafonte impregnated their nanny and told Brown that he wanted the woman to keep the baby and “all three of us live together.” She noted that Belafonte allegedly forced the woman to get an abortion and paid her more than $300,000.

The singer filed for a temporary restraining order against Belafonte on Monday, outlining how Belafonte allegedly manipulated and threatened her into staying with him.

Kevin Hart Has Adorable Dance-Off With His Daughter: 'Turning Up With the Most Beautiful Girl In the World'

This is one dance-off we don't want to get in the middle of!

Kevin Hart took to Instagram on Wednesday to show off how the Harts do vacation: with a little late-night daddy-daughter dance competition.

"Turning up with the most beautiful girl in the world on vacation," he captioned a video of himself and his 12-year-old daughter, Heaven, gettin' down.
"#daddysgirl #Harts #SheAlmostSnappedHerNeckWithThatDab #ImGettingOld #DancingInMyTommyJohnPajamasLikeaG #QualityTime."

The 37-year-old comedian is getting in some much needed R&R -- and quality time with his kids -- after several months of working non-stop.

"I'm about to go do something that I rarely do....SIT MY A** DOWN & RELAX! Much needed Vaca time with the family after filming for 3months.
#ComedicRockStarShit," he wrote alongside a pic of himself in a private jet on Wednesday, before sharing a pic of himself relaxing with Heaven and her brother, 9-year-old Hendrix.

As for whether Hart is ready to expand his family with wife Eniko Parrish, the actor recently told ET not so fast.

A post shared by Kevin Hart (@kevinhart4real) on

"That age of baby is just calling you all the time and that's a tough age. 'Dad, dad, dad, dad, dad, dad,' and then you finally turn around and they go, 'Look!' You called me 20 times for that?" he said.
"You gotta make sure you're not at the point you're not gonna be frustrated, so I'm waiting to get all this work out, and when I got some time to relax, we'll talk about the family time."

WWE: The Undertaker Retires From Wrestling [Photo]

by
Wrestling legend, The Undertaker has finally resigned from the game after 25 years.
Undertaker signaled his retirement from wrestling after a brutal fight on Sunday against Roman Reigns.

The Undertaker was hit with multiple superman punches, speared through a table and was pinned to the disappointment of the crowd.

After taking a while to get up, and as fans applauded him The UnderTaker then appeared in his classic long coat and hat and began to wander around the ring in darkness.

He then took off his hat, coat and gloves and placed them in the middle of the ring – a sign that he has ended his in-ring career.

The legendary wrestler then made his way up the long ramp, raised his arm in the air and disappeared slowly down the trap door he came from earlier.

The man who beat him Roman Reigns paid tribute to The UnderTaker afterwards.
He said, “If you’ve been a part of this business, and you know, everybody’s got respect for that man.
“But at the end of the day, you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do. As a young man, as a family man, as a provider, I’ve got to go out there and fight for mine, and that’s what I did tonight.”
Other WWE superstars from past and present took to social media to thank The Undertaker for his 25-year service to the industry.

Mick Foley wrote: “#ThankYouUndertaker – my life has been so much better for having known you.”

The Miz also said: “If there’s a dry eye at #Wrestlemania ur a bigger man than me. #ThankYouTaker.”

Bannon Removed From National Security Council Role in Shakeup

by
President Donald Trump reorganized his National Security Council on Wednesday, removing his chief strategist,Stephen Bannon, and downgrading the role of his Homeland Security Adviser,Tom Bossert, according to a person familiar with the decision and a regulatory filing.
National Security AdviserH.R. McMaster was given responsibility for setting the agenda for meetings of the NSC or the Homeland Security Council, and was authorized to delegate that authority to Bossert, at his discretion, according to the filing.

Under the move, the national intelligence director, Dan Coats, and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Marine Corps General Joseph Dunford, are again "regular attendees" of the NSC’s principals committee.

Bannon, the former executive chairman of Breitbart News, was elevated to the National Security Council’s principals committee at the beginning of Trump’s presidency. The move drew criticism from some members of Congress and Washington’s foreign policy establishment.

Kendall Jenner Isn’t the Only Celebrity to Star in Controversial Ads (Videos)

by
Pepsi just pulled their new ad starring Kendall Jenner. The commercial received backlash for appropriating the Black Lives Matter movement to sell soda.

In a statement, Pepsi said, “Clearly we missed the mark. … We did not intend to make light of any serious issue.” Kendall isn’t the first celebrity to star in a controversial ad.

Paris Hilton’s 2005 Carl’s Jr. burger ad was banned in New Zealand for being too sexy. The Parents Television Council called it “basically soft-core porn.”

In 2008, a Dunkin’ Donuts ad featuring Rachael Ray’s was pulled because the scarf she wore looked like those worn by Muslim terrorists.

Also in 2008, Eva Mendes’s Calvin Klein ad was banned by U.S. networks for being too provocative. But Calvin Klein was determined air it, so the company recut it and ran it after 9 p.m.

Dakota Fanning’s 2011 Marc Jacobs perfume ad was banned in England for “sexualizing children.” Dakota said, “Why are you making it about that, you creep. … I love Marc and trust him, and we just laughed about it.”

In 2012, Ashton Kutcher’s PopChips ad was pulled for being racist, after he wore brown makeup to portray a character named Raj.

Kendall Jenner Said She Was All About Pepsi Commercial Concept Before the Backlash (Photos)

by
Kendall Jenner’s words are coming back to haunt her.
The 21-year-old model — who stars in the controversial Pepsi ad that has since been pulled — is trying to distance herself from the commercial after receiving immediate backlash for her involvement. However, it may not be that easy.

Kendall landed in Paris on Wednesday and is keeping her head down (literally) amid all of the drama. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star has wiped mentions of Pepsi from her Twitter account, and TMZ ran a story from “sources” (cough, Team Kendall) claiming she was not involved in the creative process.

That may be true, but Kendall clearly read the script and went through with it. In an interview prior to the advertisement’s release, the model even said she was on board with the concept.

“I had never been to Bangkok before, so it was interesting to be in that city” for the ad shoot, Kendall told Women’s Wear Daily in a post that ran on Tuesday.
“There were a lot of really cool people on set that I got to meet. It was fun. It was entertaining. The whole concept is really something that I’m about, so it was just fun to be a part of.”
Kendall added, “I think a lot of people are caught up in whatever’s happening in someone else’s life and they’re not really paying attention to what’s happening right in front of them most of the time. It’s not hard to put your phone down and consciously try and get yourself to live in the moment. That’s what I try and do.”

In the ad, which has been widely critiqued as tone-deaf, Kendall finishes a photo shoot and casually stumbles upon a protest.

With police on one side and protesters on the other, the Victoria’s Secret model strolls up to the cops, offers one a Pepsi, and all is right with the world. Pepsi’s concept mirrors a viral photo of a Black Lives Matter protester who was arrested in Louisiana in 2016.

In Baton Rouge, LA, Ieshia Evans didn't meet the same reaction as Kendall Jenner from police when approaching during a protest.

Martin Luther King Jr.’s daughter, Bernice King, even spoke out about it.
If only Daddy would have known about the power of #Pepsi.
After initially defending the commercial and its message, Pepsi has issued an apology, saying it “missed the mark.” The soda company also publicly apologized to Kendall, who is the face of its global “Moments” campaign.
We’re on the edge of our seat wondering what the next “moment” will be.

Katy Perry Searches ‘Katy Perry Hot’ on Internet for Quick Self-Esteem Boost

by
The beautiful and talented songstress searches the term “Katy Perry hot” for a quick reminder that she is still a babe. Needless to say, she was successful. The move came after the “Chained to the Rhythm” singer posted two less-than-flattering photos of herself on Instagram.
“Was feeling insecure about my last two posts so,” Perry, 32, posted along with a photo of herself in unbuttoned Daisy Dukes and an overflowing bra top that slipped off one shoulder. Her sultry look added to the already smoldering pic.

A post shared by KATY PERRY (@katyperry) on
We suspect that the 601,700 likes (so far) should make her feel a bit better.

The two photos that got her questioning her sexy were this one — in which she’s having her face massaged while FaceTiming:

And her April Fools’ Day gag. She announced it’s “the cover for my 4th album,” adding,
“Been plotting in the same type of sports bra from my IM and laminated calendar since 99.”

Katy is coming off a breakup — and you know what that can do to a person — but she has no shortage of admirers. At the top of the list is her ex-John Mayer, who just released a song about how he misses her. (No big deal, right?) She has also been linked to Ryan Phillippe. Apparently they were flirting up a storm at Elton John’s recent 70th birthday bash.
The truth is, Katy doesn’t need short shorts, a loose bra, and sexy face to look hot. Next time she’s feeling insecure, she should peruse her No. 1s.

Trump: Syria Gas Attack Had ‘A Big Impact’ On Me

by
President Trump opened a joint press conference with King Abdullah II of Jordan on Wednesday afternoon by condemning the chemical attack against civilians one day earlier in Syria.
“Yesterday. Chemical attack. A chemical attack that was so horrific in Syria against innocent people, including women, small children and even beautiful little babies. Their deaths was an affront to humanity,” Trump said. “These heinous actions by the Assad regime cannot be tolerated.”
Trump said the United States stands with its allies throughout the world in condemning the attack and “all other horrific attacks for that matter.”

The meeting between Trump and Abdullah was their second since the president’s inauguration in January and their first at the White House. Trump praised Abdullah as “a great fighter” and thanked Jordan for its part in fighting terrorist groups like ISIS.

After opening statements, Trump was asked about the written statement he released on Tuesday that pinned much of the blame for the chaos in Syria on the Obama administration’s “weakness and irresolution,” particularly concerning his predecessor’s failure to intervene after drawing a “red line” regarding the use of chemical weapons in 2012.

“You’re the president now. Do you feel like you bear responsibility for responding to the chemical attacks? And does the chemical attack cross a red line for you?” asked Julie Pace, a White House correspondent for the Associated Press.
Trump responded that the Obama administration had a great opportunity to “solve this crisis a long time ago.”

“When he didn’t cross that line after making the threat, I think that set us back a long ways, not only in Syria but in many other parts of the world, because it was a blank threat,” Trump said.
“I think it was something that was not one of our better days as a country, so I do feel that, Julie. I feel it very strongly.”
Pace pressed Trump to answer the question about whether he now feels any responsibility to respond to the chemical attacks.
“I now have responsibility and I will have that responsibility and carry it very proudly,” Trump said. “I will tell you that. It is now my responsibility.”

Pace repeated her question about whether the chemical attack crossed a “red line” for him.

Trump replied that it went far beyond crossing a red line and in fact crossed “many, many lines.”
“It crossed a lot of lines for me,” Trump said.
Later in the press conference, Trump said he thinks of himself as a flexible person and that the attack on children in Syria had a “big impact” on him.
“That was a horrible, horrible thing, and I’ve been watching it and seeing it. And it doesn’t get any worse than that.H
And I have that flexibility. And it’s very, very possible and I will tell you it’s already happened that my attitude toward Syria and Assad has changed very much.”

Four Nigerian Men, One Woman Arrested In Malaysia For Romance Scams

by
Four Nigerian men and a Malaysian woman were on Tuesday, April 4th, arrested for their alleged involvement in a love scam syndicate in the Klang Valley, Malaysia.

Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Comm Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said police had their eye on the syndicate for some time before launching the operation.
"We raided several locations at Jalan Klang Lama, Cyberjaya and Damansara. During the raid, the team arrested four Nigerian men and a Malaysian woman aged between 28 and 40,"Police also seized four cars, 13 mobile phones, six laptop computers, four bank books, and six ATM cards, he added.
Comm Acryl said the syndicate would find victims through social media and develop online relationships with them before conning them into making cash transfers to them.
“We believe the syndicate used variations of love scam and parcel scam tactics to dupe their victims,” he said, adding that the suspects have been connected to 43 cases so far involving at least RM950,000.
He said that from January to March this year, 581 love and parcel scam cases were reported involving losses of at least RM23.6mil.
Love scams refer to a con game where the syndicate starts a relationship with the victim through the Internet. The “lover” expresses a wish to marry the victim in Malaysia but is “arrested” upon arrival. The victim will be asked by the syndicate to pay for his or her release.

In parcel scams the victim is made to believe, via social media, that the trickster will send them a parcel as proof of their love.
A “Customs officer” or courier company will then contact the victim, demanding a tax or insurance fee for the parcel.
The parcel will not be delivered, however, and the syndicate will continue to ask for more money from the victims.

Naval Commander Shoots Self Dead In Lagos

by
The Fleet Commander, Western Naval Command, Apapa, Lagos State, Rear Admiral Daniel Ikoli, has allegedly shot himself dead in his residence in the Apapa area.

It was learnt that a service pistol, expended and live ammunition, were recovered at the scene by police detectives who visited the residence.

It was gathered that he lived with his house boy. His wife stays in Abuja, while his children are schooling abroad.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the commander, a member of the presidential committee investigating the $15bn arms deal, left his office on Tuesday around 1pm, on the grounds that he was ill.

Around 5am on Wednesday, the house boy reportedly heard a gunshot from his room. On getting to the spot, he found him dead and raised the alarm.

A source close to Okoli disclosed to our correspondent that he had been managing depression and an ailment for some time, adding that it was not impossible that he committed suicide.

The source, however, did not disclose the nature of the ailment.

He said, “He was Commander, Nigerian Navy Ship BEECROFT, and was later appointed into the presidential committee that probed the arms deal. He was very lively and intelligent.

“But for some time now, he had been battling an illness and had lost weight. He had also become reserved lately, which was unlike him. He usually complained about the high dollar rate and unavailability of foreign exchange because he had children studying abroad.

“He left the office on Tuesday afternoon after complaining that he was not feeling fine. I was shocked this morning when I learnt he shot himself.”

Another source stated that bullets hit Okoli on the chest and he bled to death, adding that three expended bullets were found in his apartment.

He said, “The house boy said he heard a gunshot and was alarmed. He later went into Okoli’s room and found him in a pool of blood. His wife is in Abuja and his children school abroad. His aides usually leave after taking him home from office.

“Three bullets were seen in the room. No one can really tell what happened.

“He was a nice and intelligent officer. He was the one who spearheaded the renovations of BEECROFT when he was the commander.”

However, an officer, who claimed to have worked with the commander, said he usually expressed worries about the possibility of assassins going after him as a result of his membership of the presidential committee.

A competent source disclosed to PUNCH Metro that 17 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and three expended shells were recovered at the scene.

“A CZ 999 Scorpion Pistol, B/no. 17111 was also found. No suicide note was found. His corpse has been deposited in the Nigeria Navy Reference Hospital,” the source added.

The spokesperson for the Western Naval Command, Lieutenant Commander Chinwe Umar, said in a statement tagged, ‘Domestic Accident Involving a Naval Officer,’ that the cause of Ikoli’s death had yet to be known, adding that the police had commenced investigation into the case.

It said, “In the early hours of Wednesday, April 5, 2017, gunshots were heard in the vicinity where Rear Admiral Teikumo Daniel Ikoli resided in Apapa, Lagos. When his room was opened, he was found dead.

“Police have been invited and investigation is ongoing. When the situation is clearer, an update will be given.”

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole, said investigation had commenced, adding that the deceased had been deposited in a mortuary for autopsy.

He said, “We are investigating the incident to get a clearer picture. Either murder or suicide, we sympathise with the Nigerian Navy as we carry out investigations into the incident.”

Police Gun Down Suspected Killer Of Banker

by
About 48 hours after a bank worker in the Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State, Enyioma Okwudiri, was killed alongside one Nanman Lamak, the leader of the gang allegedly reponsible for the deaths has been shot dead by the police.

The gunmen had on Saturday killed the two men, who were together with a lady in a Honda Civic.

The assailants had also killed a policeman along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Road, making away with the cop’s Toyota Camry. Two other persons, making use of an Automated Teller Machine, were also shot dead by the gang.

The state police command on Monday claimed it arrested the leader of the gang, identified simply as Amobi. The suspect was also known as Toosolo Sharpiro.

A senior police officer, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, said the suspect, who hailed from Umuawa Ogii, in the Okigwe LGA, was traced to Aba, Abia State, where he was nabbed by the police.

He explained that while other members of his gang escaped, Amobi was arrested alive.

The source added that the suspect was eventually shot dead when he attempted to escape.

“The hoodlum had been a thorn in the flesh of people of Okigwe town. He was shot dead when he played smart by trying to escape from the hands of police officers who were bringing him to Okigwe from Aba, where he was arrested,” the source said.

The Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Acho Ihim, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Ben Ilochonwu, expressed delight at the development.

The Transition Committee Chairman of the Okigwe LGA, Sunny Chiadi, confirmed the killing of the suspect.

There was jubilation on Tuesday in Okigwe town, when the remains of the gangster were brought into the town.

B’Haram Killed 500 Catholics In Borno — Archbishop

by
The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Maiduguri, Most Rev. Oliver Doeme, on Wednesday, said no fewer than 500 Catholics were killed by Boko Haram agents in Borno State while 25 reverend fathers and 40 reverend sisters were displaced in the crisis.

Speaking in Maiduguri on Wednesday, he lamented that 250 Catholic churches were razed in the Boko Haram militants in 2014 alone in the North-East.

The Archbishop, who described the birth and sustenance of Boko Haram as an “offshoot of corruption” in the country, said 80,000 Catholics were displaced by the insurgency with 64,000 fleeing into Cameroon.

Doeme added that over 50 Catholic catechists were displaced in Adamawa, Yobe and Borno states at the peak of Boko Haram insurgency.

He commended the present government for its successes in the ongoing war against terrorism.

The cleric lauded the achievements of the military in its war against the insurgents, calling on the government to do more to put a stop to the violence in the region.

He stressed that there were still pockets of attacks and suicide bombings.

“The battle against Boko Haram should not be limited to the physical realm but it needs to be fought in the spiritual realm for it is a demonic attack,” he stated.

He called on Christian bodies to be engaged in the rebuilding plan of the North-East.

The cleric added, “If the churches have been part of assisting the victims of the insurgency, they should equally be involved in the rebuilding plan,” the cleric added.

FG’s Cconomic Model Can’t Work, Says Sanusi

by
The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi ll, on Wednesday, faulted the present administration’s economic model, saying it would not work.

Sanusi, who spoke at the Kaduna State Economic Summit in Kaduna, the state capital, also berated northern leaders, saying the North-West and the North-East remained the poorest parts of the world.

The monarch, who spoke on the theme ‘Promoting investments in the midst of economic challenges’, said the North, as a region, constituted the highest of the nation’s population, but lacked the necessary indices for progress.

Sanusi, a former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, said the Federal Government was borrowing unsustainably.

He noted that currently, Nigeria was spending 66 per cent of its revenues to pay interests on debts, saying such a model would not work.

Sanusi stated, “The Federal Government of Nigeria is spending 66 per cent of its revenues on interests on debts, which means only 34 per cent of revenues is available for capital and recurrent expenditures.

“That model cannot work. If you look at the 2017 budget of the Federal Government, I sometimes wonder what Nigerian economists are doing? In the 2017 budget presented by the Federal Government, the amount earmarked for debt servicing is in excess of the entire non-oil revenue of the Federal Government, but that is not the problem. The problem is that it is a budget that is even going for more debts.”

He wondered when the Federal Government would stop borrowing if the government was spending 66 per cent of its revenues to pay interests on debts.

The emir said government at all levels should realise that borrowing had reached its limit and should therefore look for ways to attract investments.

“Growth can only come from investments. It cannot come from consumption. It cannot come from government balance sheet. It cannot come from borrowing because you cannot borrow unsustainably,” he said.

…faults loan from China

Sanusi also faulted the Federal Government on its plan to borrow money from China.

The monarch added, “We have governors; they go to China and spend one month on a tour and what do they come back with, MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) on debts.

“China will lend you $1.8bn to build light rail. This light rail will be done by the rail workers from China. The trains will come from China. The engines will come from China. The labour comes from China. The driver is Chinese.
“At the end of the day, what do you benefit from it? Your citizen will ride on a train and when you ride on a train, in northern Nigeria, in a state like Kano or Katsina, where are you going to? You are not going to an industrial estate to work. You are not going to school? You are not going to the farm. You borrow money from China to invest in trains so that your citizens can ride on them and go for weddings and naming ceremonies.”

North-West, North-East the poorest parts of the world –Emir

He stated that the North-West and the North-East would have been the poorest in the world, if they were a nation.

Sanusi added, “We are living in denial. The North-West and the North-East, demographically, constitute the bulk of Nigeria’s population, but look at human development indices, look at the number of children out of school, look at adult literacy, look at maternal mortality,

look at infant mortality, look at girl-child completion rate, look at income per capita, the North-East and the North-West Nigeria, are among the poorest parts of the world.

“As far back as 2000, I looked at the numbers, Borno and Yobe states, UNDP figures: Borno and Yobe states, if they were a country on their own, were poorer than Niger, Cameroon and Chad.

“Nobody saw this because we were looking at Nigeria as a country that averages the oil-rich Niger Delta, the industrial and commercial-rich Lagos, the commercially viable South-East, and you have an average.

“Break Nigeria into its component parts, and these parts of the country are among the poorest, if it were a country. And we do not realise we are in trouble.”

Sanusi said for the region to leap forward developmentally, it must fix it social and religious problems.

He pointed out that women and children must be loved, not beaten, adding that the region must do away with the 13th century mindset of religion and culture.

Sanusi stated, “Other Muslim nations have pushed forward girl-child education, they’ve pushed forward science and technology. They have pushed forward the arts. We have this myth in northern Nigeria, where we try to create an Islamic society that never existed.”

He added that the northern Muslims had adopted an interpretation of culture and religion that was rooted in the 13th century mindset, which refused to recognise that the rest of the Muslim world had moved on.

He recalled that books, preaching love, were being burnt in northern Nigeria, calling for a better interpretation of Islamic views so that better life could be provided for women and the girl-child.

Sanusi stated, “We need to understand the roots of the problem of northern Nigeria. Burning books, it happened in Kano. What is the crime of those books? They were writing about (love), and love apparently is supposed to be a bad word.

“In a society where you don’t love your women and you don’t love your children, you allow them to beg, you beat up your women, why should anyone talk about love?

“We have adopted an interpretation of our culture and our religion that is rooted in the 13th century mindset that refuses to recognise that the rest of the Muslim world has moved on.

“Today in Malaysia, you wake up and divorce your wife; that is fine. But you give her 50 per cent of all the wealth you acquired since you married her. It is a Muslim country. In Nigeria, you wake up after 20 years of marriage, you say to your wife, ‘I divorce you’, and that’s it.

“Other Muslim nations have pushed forward girl-child education; they’ve pushed forward science and technology. They have pushed forward the arts. We have this myth in northern Nigeria, where we try to create an Islamic society that never existed.

“We are fighting culture, we are fighting civilisation. We must wage an intellectual war, because Islam is not univocal. There are many voices, there are many interpretations, there are many viewpoints, and we have for too long allow the ascendancy of the most conservative viewpoints. The consequences of that are that there are certain social problems.”

…knocks Yari over comments on meningitis

Sanusi also knocked the Governor of Zamfara State, Abdulaziz Yari, on his comments on meningitis, which has killed no fewer than 200 persons in the state.

The governor had, on Tuesday, blamed the deaths from meningitis attack on the sins of the people against God.

But Sanusi said he was pained that a governor should make such an outrageous statement when he was supposed to look for vaccines to stop the deaths.

“I’m sorry about a current issue yesterday (Tuesday). Two hundred people died of meningitis in a state, the governor was asked and he said it was God’s curse on us for the sin of fornication, which does not happen in America, which is why they don’t have meningitis,” he said.

The monarch, who has a degree in Islamic Law, added that such a statement shouldn’t have come from the governor, insisting that he(Yari) should have treated those who had contracted the disease.

He lamented that while Nigerians were thinking of how to come out of the economic recession, the executive and National Assembly were busy fighting each other on political issues.

Sanusi stated, “If you have been reading and watching the news for the last one month, the big and concerned news politically is about leadership but unfortunately, the conversation is not about electricity, infrastructure, education, health care.

“All the conversations are about the National Assembly, the executive, the judiciary, conflict between this politician and that politician as well as confirmation of the EFCC boss.”

Appealing to politicians, he said, “Let us stop playing politics and talk about education and health care. When we get to late 2018, you stop working and politicise, we will understand that, but for now, it is too early. You can’t be in politics for four years.”

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, berated the nation’s political class at the event that attracted captains of industry both from within and without.
