Photos From Chester Bennington's Private Funeral

by
Chester Bennington's family and closest friends on Saturday gathered for a private funeral near his home in Palos Verdes, CA.

A couple of hundred people attended the service at South Coast Botanic Garden. Many of the guests were musicians who'd played or toured with Chester and Linkin Park.

A full stage, including a drum kit, was set up for musical tributes to be performed. Police also provided tight security at the event.

His family opted for a private funeral, instead of a massive open service. But fans have organized numerous memorials around the globe for the front man who hanged himself just over a week ago.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Is 70! See How His Most Iconic Line Almost Didn’t Happen

by
Arnold Schwarzenegger Will Be Back Again and Again and Again...

Arnold Schwarzenegger is 70 years old today, and throughout his life the brawny Austrian has had so many successful careers it’s almost dizzying. He won Mr. Universe back in 1969, served as the 38th governor of California, and has starred in what seems like a limitless number of movies. However, for all his accomplishments, the actor is best known for three small words: “I’ll be back.” (Cue the car crash.)

It’s been over 32 years since audiences were blown away by The Terminator after its release in theaters in 1984. Since then, fans have obsessed over Schwarzenegger’s role as the cyborg assassin, skyrocketing Arnold and his simple line into superstardom. In fact, the two are so famous, “I’ll be back” has been ranked as the 37th best movie line of all time and Schwarzenegger’s portrayal of the Terminator landed him solidly as the 22nd best villain of all time by the American Film Institute.

But surprisingly, the famous phrase wasn’t originally written that way in the script. Director and writer James Cameron’s originally scripted line was actually, “I’ll come back” instead of “I’ll be back.”

Cameron eventually changed the line into how it’s known today, but Schwarzenegger got a little nervous about his Austrian accent and wanted to change the line once again. In 2012, the actor admitted in a GMA interview, “I could not pronounce ‘I’ll,’ so I just kept saying to Jim Cameron maybe I should just say, “I will be back.” I said it sounds more like a machine.”

But Cameron didn’t take kindly to the actor’s pitch, and the two had it out on set. Cameron put the argument to bed by demanding Schwarzenegger just read the script, and the rest is history.

All the drama was worth it in the end. Together Cameron and Schwarzenegger created a pop-culture phenomenon that has permeated beyond the Terminatorfranchise. “I’ll be back” has made cameos in numerous movies, including Commando (1985), The Running Man (1987), Last Action Hero (1993), and even Expendables 2 (2012), just to name a few. It shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that even after all these years the line is still alive outside of the movies as well. In his commencement speech to the University of Houston class of 2017, Schwarzenegger reprised his famous line to wild applause (Jump to 21:50 to see moment).

Chester Bennington Laid to Rest in L.A.

The funeral service was closed but hundreds of memorial services are planned around the world.More

Chester Bennington, the frontman of Linkin Park who committed suicide on July 20, has been laid to rest near his home in Palos Verdes, CA at a Saturday afternoon service at the South Coast Botanical Garden. Among those in attendance were musicians who had known Chester and played or toured with him and the band.

The service included a full stage set up for musical tributes.

In a sweet touch, those who attended the funeral were given wristbands and tickets that were designed to look like concert passes.

The family decided to have a private funeral with close family and friends, but fans around the world have organized their own memorials for the Linkin Park singer.

Founder of the band Mark Shinoda tweeted out a link to a big Google Doc full of information about more than 300 memorials all over the world to be held in honor of Chester Bennington.

Some of these will be held at the same venues that the band would have played at before cancelling their tour following the death of their frontman.

Linkin Park bassist Dave "Phoenix" Farrell also took to Twitter to pay his respects, sending out a series of heartfelt tweets and retweeting several fan photos from memorials from places like Naples, Italy, Johannesburg, South Africa, Lima, Peru, London and New York City.

Chester Bennington's Ex-Wife: 'I Pray From My Soul He Is at Peace'

by
Chester Bennington's ex-wife Samantha Bennington remembered the Linkin Park singer in an emotional tribute that she posted on Facebook Sunday.More

Chester Bennington's ex-wife Samantha Bennington remembered the Linkin Park singer in an emotional tribute that she posted on Facebook Sunday.

"I pray from my soul that he is at peace and no longer suffering," wrote Samantha, who was married to the singer from 1996 to 2005.
"Chester, as one of my best friends of the age of 19, a husband, father to my son, business partner, and all we created together, I'm truly honored to have completed our soul contracts together, build all we did together, & thank you for giving me the greatest gift ever, our beautiful son Draven."
Samantha Bennington added that she and Draven are "extremely spiritual" and wrote about how they "believe that we as souls make 'soul contracts' we agree to come into this world with the knowledge of our destiny & when it's fulfilled we move on to a higher vibration of energy, meaning 'the next level.'"

In the case of Chester, "He fulfilled his destiny while helping others every step of the way through his music, a handshake, a conversation, or even a hug. No matter if you saw him on stage, had an opportunity to meet him anywhere he truly touched everyone in a positive way. He absolutely loved singing for each & every one of you & for all of his friends & family at home all the time," Samantha wrote.

"I promise to continue to raise a great man who has integrity, humility, kindness, & most of all compassion & love. I do feel your presence as a guardian angel watching over us & I'm extremely filled with gratitude."

On Friday, Chester Bennington's widow Talinda issued her first statement following the singer's July 20th death.
"One week ago, I lost my soulmate and my children lost their hero – their Daddy. We had a fairytale life and now it has turned into some sick Shakespearean tragedy," Talinda wrote.
"How do I move on? How do I pick up my shattered soul? The only answer I know is to raise our babies with every ounce of love I have left."

Putin Orders U.S To Cut 755 Diplomatic Staff In Russia

by
In his first major response to new U.S. sanctions approved by Congress, president Vladimir Putin has ordered the United States to cut its diplomatic staff in Russia by 755 people.

The Russian leader said more actions may follow, soon.

Moscow also gave the U.S a Sept 1 deadline and said it would seize two U.S. diplomatic properties.
This comes after the White House said on Friday that U.S. President Donald Trump would sign the sanctions bill.

Putin said in an interview with Vesti TV released on Sunday

“The American side has made a move which, it is important to note, hasn’t been provoked by anything, to worsen Russian-US relations.
[It includes] unlawful restrictions, attempts to influence other states of the world, including our allies, who are interested in developing and keeping relations with Russia,We’ve been waiting for quite a long time that maybe something would change for the better, we had hopes that the situation would change.
But it looks like, it’s not going to change in the near future... I decided that it is time for us to show that we will not leave anything unanswered.”
“Because more than 1,000 workers – diplomats and support staff – were working and are still working in Russia, 755 must stop their activity in the Russian Federation,” he said.
Moscow said on Friday that the United States had until Sept. 1 to reduce its diplomatic staff in Russia to 455 people, matching the number of Russian diplomats left in the United States after Washington expelled 35 Russians in December.

On Friday, an official at the U.S. Embassy, who did not wish to be identified, said the embassy employed about 1,100 diplomatic and support staff in Russia, including Russian and U.S. citizens.

ASUU Threatens Indefinite Strike Over Kidnapped UNIMAID Lecturers

by
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has vowed to embark on an indefinite strike if the Federal Government failed to strengthen security in the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) and ensure the release of the abducted lecturers.

Speaking on the development, ASUU president, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi said the government should do all within its power to free their members held by the terrorists.

He said, “Our union is no doubt saddened by the UNIMAID incident. It is a concrete manifestation of our fears all along. As far back as June 9, we expressed our fears about the alarming security situation in the Maiduguri metropolis and particularly in UNIMAID. Those fears we expressed are beginning to manifest concretely.

“The situation could have been better handled. Our members, who were carrying out their legitimate duties were made vulnerable to this experience.
‘‘We have told the government to take the necessary steps and get our members in captivity released or else, we may be forced to call out our members. But we are getting assurances now that the government is going to do the needful.”

37 Killed In Farmers-Herdsmen Clash In Kaduna

by
About 37 persons have been reported killed in a fresh violent clash between farmers and herdsmen in Kajuru local government area of Kaduna, about 60 kilometres away from the state capital

The fresh round of violence between farmers and herders in the state began on Sunday when some Fulani youths went to a village at Ungwan Uka to avenge the killing of a certain Fulani herdsman said to have been attacked and killed some days back by some Kadara youths at a farm at Banono village.

It was said that the Fulani man that was killed was a known bandit who has been harassing the people of the area and was killed by a mob while trying to escape.
When this happened, the matter was reportedly explained to the Fulani community in the area who also confirmed that the deceased was a bandit but their youths insisted on avenging the man.
“The Chief of kajuru even called them and spoke with them but we were surprised they came and carried out the attack,” he stated.
The Fulani youths, in a reprisal attack that occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, killed 5 of the Kadara youths identified as having a hand in the killing of the Fulani herdsman in the attack.

Their action, in turn, angered th1e Kadara youths who mobilized themselves on Monday and launched an attack on the surrounding Fulani settlements, burning their tents and other properties while killing no less than 12 persons in that attack.
After the attack, some security agents were drafted to the communities and things calmed down for the period they were around but violence returned when the security operatives left the bushes and the kadara youth launched another attack on the surrounding Fulani settlement and killed no less than 10.
Meanwhile, when contacted, the acting Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Yakubu Sabo said the police is aware of a misunderstanding among some individuals in the community which later led to a clash when some people took the laws into their hands adding that the police and the army have however gone to the place and brought the situation under control.

Sabo also said that the command was yet to confirm the number of casualties and promised that, as soon as he confirms the casualty, he will get back to the press.

“We just finished a meeting with the acting president and the three service chiefs. We agreed that they should move back to the command centre again and see what are the things happening there. We have also agreed that we should get more surveillance devices, cameras that will be able to see distant attackers coming to the position of our troops.

Also, the period of the raining season is a difficult moment for us. We cannot dominate the environment like what we do during the dry season but efforts are geared towards regaining our areas. All these ambushes that are happening would be stopped.”

9 Things We Learned From Angelina Jolie’s Revealing Vanity Fair Interview

by
Angelina Jolie makes some candid confessions. (Photo: Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott exclusively for Vanity Fair)

Angelina Jolie covers the September issue of Vanity Fair, and the actress is making headlines for her candid confessions about life post-Brad Pitt.

While we’re obviously interested in the juicy breakup quotes — and subtle shade — the story is filled with plenty of other gems.

Here are nine fun facts we learned about Jolie and her and Pitt’s six children:

1. Vivienne loves blankets.

Jolie and Pitt’s 9-year-old daughter, Vivienne, is obsessed with blankets. During the interview, Jolie explains why a blanket she picks up is “shredded to death.”

“She has 32 blankets. She is very into her blanket, and she gets very mad if you wash her blanket,” Jolie says with a laugh. “She actually said to me the other day, ‘Mom, I can taste my blanket.’ ‘That, honey, is a sign that it really, really needs to be washed.’”

2. Decorating isn’t Jolie’s thing.

When settling into the living room for the beginning of the interview, the writer notes that Jolie looks “curiously” at some throw pillows. She says, “I didn’t even know I needed ‘throw pillows.’” Jolie declares that decorating and house stuff “was always Brad’s thing.”

The actress does have one personal piece of artwork in her recently purchased Los Feliz home: a black-and-white photograph of the six children, smiling and holding their various pets — dogs, reptiles, and rodents.

3. Zahara goes by Zaz.

Jolie describes her 12-year-old daughter as “the rock” of the family.

4. The kids aren’t always excited about humanitarian trips.

Even the Jolie-Pitt kids just want to be kids at times. Jolie explains that she will be taking the children to Africa while she checks in on a project connected to the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative. The actress admits that it’s not a dream itinerary and that she’s started to get a little pushback from her older children.

“I’m conscious that the boys are teenage boys, and maybe they’d rather be watching TV with their friends, and they’ve been to Africa, and they may not be as excited as the little ones,” she confesses. “But they don’t really challenge me. They just kind of sit on the edge of my bed and say, ‘What are we going to do there?’”

Jolie apparently assured them that they would be doing fun stuff too, such as sandboarding. Still, the kids are much more awake than most and appreciate the humanitarian work. “They know that it’s important, and they know that Mom thinks that it’s going to be important when they’re older,” she adds.

At least one of them, 9-year-old Knox, enjoys the family’s not-so-normal life. Jolie recently made a joke to her son along the lines of “Pretend to be normal.”

Knox replied, “Who wants to be normal? We’re not normal. Let’s never be normal.”

“Thank you — yes! We’re not normal,” Jolie quipped. “Let’s embrace being not normal!”

5. Jolie needs to work on her cooking skills.

While Jolie explains that she’s prioritizing family over movie roles, we can’t help but take the following quote to mean that she needs to work on her skills in the kitchen.

“I’m just wanting to make the proper breakfast and keep the house. That’s my passion,” she states. “At the request of my kids, I’m taking cooking classes. As I go to sleep at night, I think, did I do a great job as a mom or was that an average day?”

We’d love to know what she’s whipping up.

6. Homemaker Jolie is a work in progress.

Sure, cooking classes are in the mix, but Jolie realizes that adapting to life as a single mom comes with time.

“I never woke up and thought, I really want to live a bold life. I just can’t do the other,” she declares. “It’s the same as I can’t make a casserole. I cannot sit still.”

The interviewer notes that Jolie is “champing at the bit” for her trip to Africa, “desperate to flee.”

“I’ve been trying for nine months to be really good at just being a homemaker and picking up dog poop and cleaning dishes and reading bedtime stories. And I’m getting better at all three,” Jolie admits. “But now I need to get my boots on and go hang, take a trip.”

President Trump Declares: “We Worship God In America”

by
Just after he dropped a bomb on the LGBTQ Community reversing an Obama era policy and continued his Twitter attack on Attorney General Jeff Sessions, President Trump tweeted to declare that Americans only worship God, not the government.

He wrote; “IN AMERICA WE DON’T WORSHIP GOVERNMENT—WE WORSHIP GOD!” linking the tweet to a video clip from his rally in Ohio Tuesday night.
In the video, he said, “And finally, we believe that family and faith, not government and bureaucracy, are the foundation of our society, you’ve heard me say it before on the campaign trail, and I’ll say it again tonight – in America we don’t worship government, we worship God.”

This presidential declaration came after Trump shocked the world by announcing the ban of transgenders from serving in the United States military in any capacity, based on counsel from his Generals and military experts. Reason cited – to avoid and cut down medical costs.

Arrest Fayose For Felony Over Comment On Buhari’s Health - APC Chieftain Tells DSS

by
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti, Bamidele Faparusi had called on the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate governor of the state, Ayodele Fayose over his claim that President Muhammadu Buhari was on life support.

This comes after two batches of governors visited President Muhammadu Buhari in London and pictures of the visit were released by the Presidency.

In a statement on Wednesday, Faparusi who is also a governorship aspirant said the pictures has dispelled rumors that Buhari was very sick.

He said Fayose’s claim that Buhari was on life support in a London hospital constituted a treasonable felony against the country.

He added that information has to be extracted from Fayose about where he got the “devilish information from so that the country can ascertain those plotting evil against the Federal Government.”

The statement said, “Governor Fayose must tell the country what informed his interest to persistently dig unsubstantiated information about Buhari’s health if not for the fact that he was one of those plotting to stage a coup against the country.

“The Presidency is the symbol of our dear nation and it needs to be shielded against debasement by desperados who can do anything to grab power.
“Recently, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai, raised an alarm that some men of the Nigerian army were plotting to stage a coup at a time the President was out of the country. This formed the basis for why Governor Fayose must be called to question.

“I quite appreciate the fact that the governor enjoys immunity under Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution, but the constitution doesn’t say he can’t be investigated. The EFCC had investigated him over alleged involvement in N2.999bn arms scandal.

“The APC has it on good authority that the PDP was planning to truncate democracy under Buhari and disunite the country and Governor Fayose as the arrowhead has been intensifying efforts in this sinister scheme to the see that the President is dead.

“What marveled us was that he made the startling allegations quoting date and the location of Mr. President in London. This called for concern and should not be taken lightly.”

Customs Seizes 140 Snakes And 600 Other Animals Imported From Cameroon (Photo)

by
The Nigeria Customs Service on Wednesday intercepted three consignments containing 140 species of snakes and 660 other animals imported into Nigeria from Cameroon.

The containers were brought in aboard a Cameroonian vessel tagged ‘MV Flesh’ through the Calabar waterway to the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) jetty in Calabar, Cross River State.

The other animals which were identified as geckos, millipedes, hairy frogs and spiders, were said to be worth N6.9m.

Customs Area Comptroller in charge of Calabar Free Trade Zone, Cross River and Akwa Ibom Command, Nanbyen Burromvyat, without opening the containers for possible fear of escape, immediately handed over the items and the two suspects arrested to authorities of the Nigerian Agricultural Quarantine Services for further investigations.

She said,

“These containers have animals of different sizes. They were brought in on July 24, 2017, through this Calabar waterway. The consignment was spotted by our vigilant officers and they contain live animals which are a prohibition under Schedule 3 of our revised import prohibition list.
“Live animals are a prohibition. There is no provision for permit to bring them in. We are seizing them and hand the containers over to the Nigerian Quarantine Services for further necessary action.
“I do not know what they want to do with it but I think that it will be dangerous for us because it contains snake, spider, geckos and other creatures. We have enough snakes around Nigeria already and it will be suspicious importing this. I do not know what to think because I do not know what they can be used for.”
The arrested agent who brought in the consignment from Cameroon, Julius Novigana, said they were given to him by a friend to deliver to someone in Lagos.
“A friend gave it to me in Cameroon to deliver to someone in Lagos. I only have the man’s number in Lagos. I have called him and he said he would send someone to come and pick it up from me here in Calabar. I did not know what was contained in the big cartons; my assignment was to deliver the consignment. I do not know the names of the person in Lagos,” he said.

Meanwhile, Captain of the vessel that brought the consignment, Victor Agbor, also a Cameroonian, said he did not spot the containers when he was about leaving his country.

“I did not see these containers on the vessel when I left Cameroon. The name of my vessel is MV Flesh and we bring in passengers and general cargo from Cameroon to Nigeria. I never saw this container on board before leaving; they only called my attention to it that there were some containers without manifestoes in the vessel. I do not have any idea about it,” he said.''

I Was Shocked When I Saw President Buhari In London - Rochas Okorocha Says

by
Imo state governor, Rochas Okorocha was on Channels TV last night where he spoke on his visit to President Buhari in London last Sunday.

According to him, he was shocked to see a healthy man that still had his good sense of humor. Okorocha said prior to his visit, there were speculations that President Buhari was so ill he was on life support but that to his greatest shock he saw a man who was so healthy who is fit to return home any moment from now.

“To my greatest shock, when I arrived in London with the Party Chairman and the governors of Kano, Kaduna, Kogi, Nasarawa and the Minister of Transport, we saw a man that was full of humor as usual and we were wondering whether it is the same person that they are talking about. All I can say is that Mr. President is in good health, he is not on life support and he will soon be back.
And he is not in the hospital. I was thinking I was going to see him in the hospital, but he is not even in the hospital. He was at home relaxing and having a good time. When I made inquiries as to why he is still waiting, why he is still not back home, all I got as an answer is that he is just taking some vitamins to increase his appetite to regain his lost weight.
But I think the man is in good spirits and I think the prayers of Nigerians have worked to a great extent and President Buhari is coming back in full force to resume his work. What Nigerians should be talking about now is what should be his next line of action.”

On when President Buhari will return back home, the governor said

“The Buhari I saw two days ago will be back to Nigeria as soon as possible. I don’t think that he will stay longer than necessary, unless for some other reasons. I saw a man that was quite healthy, in high spirits and very sound – except for the fact that he has lost a bit of weight.”

Trump “Disappointed” With Sessions, Says “Time Will Tell” If He Would Remain As Attorney General

by
In a Rose Garden Conference with the Lebanese Prime Minister, Presiden Trump said that “time will tell “if Jeff Sessions will remain as Attorney General of the United States, Politico reports.

President Trump’s has been consistent in expressing his frustration at the Attorney General in the past week, tweeting on Tuesday that the Attorney General had taken “a VERY weak position” regarding Hillary Clinton emails. Trump wrote; “Attorney General Jeff Sessions has taken a VERY weak position on Hillary Clinton crimes (where are E-mails & DNC server) & Intel leakers!”.

Speaking with the Wall street journal Tuesday, Trump refused to say outrightly if plans to dismiss Sessions were in the offing. “I’m just looking at it,” he said, adding that he suspected Sessions only endorsed him because he garnered massive crowds on the campaign trail. “It’s not like a great loyal thing about the endorsement”, he said.
The press has seen similar rhetoric from the President since last week when he told the New York Times he would have picked someone else for the position if he knew Sessions would recuse himself from all campaign related probes.

The president told reporters Tuesday “I want the attorney general to be much tougher on the leaks from intelligence agencies, which are leaking like rarely have they ever leaked before at a very important level,” the president said. “These are intelligence agencies. We cannot have that happen. You know many of my views in addition to that, but I think that’s one of the very important things that they have to get on with.”

FRSC To Prosecute Abia Speaker’s Wife Over Shooting Of Officials

by
Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps, Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi on Tuesday said the corps would prosecute wife of the Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, Mrs. Victoria Kalu.

According to Oyeyemi, Kalu will be prosecuted for alleged traffic offence and ordering the shooting of some road marshals.

Oyeyemi added that at least four different assaults were visited on officials of the FRSC in less than one week.

Two FRSC officials were reportedly shot by policemen attached to the Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Chikwendu Kalu.

They were said to have stopped the speaker’s wife vehicle along the Umuikaa/Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway, for not wearing seat belt.

The corps marshal said the speaker’s wife would not be spared either.

“The case is not closed yet. I’ll prosecute the wife of the speaker,” Oyeyemi said.

A statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, FRSC, Bisi Kazeem, quoted the corps marshal as saying that a day before the Abia shooting, some members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers had challenged the FRSC officials on patrol of Kiyawa-Dutse Road in Jigawa State for daring to check their vehicles for excessive overloading and installation of the speed limiting devices.

“They not only set the FRSC patrol vehicle ablaze but also badly damaged another vehicle. The FRSC office was destroyed by the rampaging NURTW officials. The Jigawa incident resulted in fatality as one person was killed and several others injured,” he said.

Oyeyemi recalled that in Abuja, a patrol team had flagged down a driver for routine checks. And “when his car was to be impounded for running foul of traffic law, a female FRSC official was attached to the offender’s vehicle to accompany the vehicle to a nearby FRSC office for other necessary processes as contained in the operational procedure, the driver sped away with the female worker. A patrol team, obviously concerned about the motive of the fleeing driver, had to apply force to rescue the female operative.”

Oyeyemi, who condemned the attacks on the road marshals, said, “Many road users are abusing the civility of the unarmed personnel that are trained to be cautious while discharging their legitimate duties.”

Two Die As Cholera Outbreak Hits Lagos

by
At least two persons have been confirmed dead, while 25 other residents of Lagos State are receiving treatment in hospitals following an outbreak of cholera in three local government areas of the state

The Lagos State Government at a press conference in Alausa on Tuesday that, the outbreak was due to the heavy rainfall being experienced and the aftermath of flooding in the state.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris, said,

“Twenty-seven cases have been listed by our epidemiology/disease surveillance officers as of today, July 25, 2017. Two deaths were recorded from the 27 cases.”

“In Oshodi-Isolo LGA, two cases were recorded. One was managed at a private hospital and he is alive, while one died at home. In Surulere LGA, 14 cases were reported and managed at Randle General Hospital. No death was recorded,” the commissioner said.

“The main suspected source of infection is the contamination of water sources with faecal matter from faulty septic tanks and soakaway, following the heavy rainfall in the state. Samples of well water have been collected and sent to the Lagos State Drug Quality Control Laboratory. We are still expecting the results,” Idris added.

“The clinical manifestations of cholera are nausea, profuse diarrhoea, vomiting (in early stages of illness), fever, and leg cramp. Later presentations are dehydration, shock or coma,” he added.

Idris said the government had instituted measures to contain the outbreak.

Angry Democrats File No-confidence Motion Against Trump

by
Two dozen congressional Democrats Wednesday launched a no-confidence motion against Donald Trump, an effort that will have no practical effect but highlights the rancor aroused by the US president.

“This is an attempt at a political intervention,” Representative Steve Cohen told reporters as he unveiled the resolution questioning Trump’s fitness to serve as commander in chief.
Congress cannot remove a president except by impeachment, so a no-confidence motion would be non-binding.

But Democrats are hoping to send a message of frustration with a leader who has refused to release his taxes, launched verbal attacks on women and the press, pulled the United States out of a pivotal climate pact and cast doubt on the usefulness of traditional alliances.

If Cohen were to use procedural tactics to bring the resolution to the House floor, even for a simple request for a vote, it could serve as a strong if symbolic rebuke.

Cohen said the resolution details “misdeeds and actions that give people lack of confidence in him and the direction he is taking our country.”

They include accusations that Trump accepted payments from foreign powers including from officials staying at his hotels, and fired the FBI director because of the ongoing investigation into possible Trump campaign collusion with Russia.

The resolution urged the president to release his tax returns; “unequivocally acknowledge” that Russia interfered in the 2016 election; and refrain from using Twitter inappropriately.

Cohen said he discussed his motion with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and that she did not object.

“We have a president who actively undermines the very principles of our government, and a Republican Congress that makes excuses for him as though his behavior were normal,” said congresswoman and co-sponsor Judy Chu.

“It is not normal. Trump’s behavior is cruel, unethical and it is driving people’s faith in government to dangerously low levels.”

US resolutions of congressional censure are rare.

In 2007, the Senate considered a no-confidence motion against Bush-era attorney general Alberto Gonzalez, but it failed to advance.

Earlier this month a Democratic congressman formally filed the first article of impeachment against Trump, but the effort has been ignored by Republican leadership.
