South Korean Ex-President Jailed Over Corruption Allegations

by
South Korea's former President Park Geun-hye has been arrested and jailed over high-profile corruption allegations that already ended her tumultuous four-year rule and prompted an election to find her successor.

A convoy of vehicles, including a black sedan carrying Park, entered a detention facility near Seoul after the Seoul Central District Court granted prosecutors' request to arrest her.

Many Park supporters waved national flags and shouted "president" as Park's car entered the facility.
Prosecutors can detain her for up to 20 days before formally charging her, meaning she will likely be in jail while her case is heard.

A district court normally issues a ruling within six months of an indictment.

The Seoul court's decision is yet another humiliating fall for Park, South Korea's first female president who was elected in 2012 amid overwhelming support from conservatives, who recall her dictator father as a hero who lifted the country from poverty in the 1960-70s despite a record of severe human rights abuses.

Prosecutors accuse Park of colluding with a confidante to extort big businesses, take a bribe from one of the companies and commit other wrongdoing. The allegations led millions of South Koreans to protest in the streets every weekend for months before lawmakers impeached her in December and the Constitutional Court ruled in March to formally remove her from office.

It made Park the country's first democratically elected leader to be forced from office since democracy got there in the late 1980s.

South Korea will hold an election in May to choose Park's successor.

Prosecutors can charge Park without arresting her. But they said they wanted to arrest her because the allegations against her are "grave" and because other suspects involved the scandal, including her confidante Choi Soon-sil and Samsung heir Lee Jae-yong, have already been arrested.

by
Former 'Power Ranger' star actor, Ricardo Medina Jr. was sentenced to six years in state prison for the stabbing death of Josh Sutter, Late Sutter was identified as Medina’s roommate by the LA County DA’s Office, though Medina’s attorney reportedly said the two were just friends, not roommates.

Medina Jr. pleaded guilty earlier this month to one felony count of voluntary manslaughter and admitted to stabbing Sutter with a sword. Six years was the maximum sentence.

The 38-year-old actor was arrested for the crime back in January, after he and Sutter allegedly got into an argument that turned physical.

Kim Kardashian Undergoes Surgery On Her Uterus To EnableHer Have A Third Child

by
Guess she loves the attention that comes from pregnancy and having a baby which is why she has changed her mind after saying she will never have another baby.

Asides making a decision on her own not to have babies anymore, Kim had been warned by doctors that it was risky for her to conceive and have another child but she's determined to try and revealed to her family that she will be having surgery on her uterus to make that possible.

The 36-year-old mother-of-two revealed this in a sneak peek from Sunday's episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashian and succeeded in making her family look worried for her.

"I have to go in and repair my uterus because I decided I'm going to try to have one more baby," she said to her mom and sisters at dinner. "Isn't that exciting?"

But her family did not seem excited at all and they tried to talk her out of it.

Kendal said: "Oh my god, I thought you were for sure done."

Cory Gamble, Kris' boyfriend also warned her about the risk, saying, "I don't want you to, like, do anything risky."

Everyone pitched in to try to discourage her, but Kourtney was simply dumbfounded and continued to stare at her, worry evident in her features.

Khloe, who has made no secret of the fact that she will love to have babies too, seemed both interested and confused and asked her big sister:

"What surgery are we having? I have to have a surgery on my uterus to kind of repair this hole, so they need to like clean that out and then there's scar tissue. It will still be a really high-risk pregnancy, just you'd be able to get pregnant." Kim clarified."So, why do you want to do it again?" Khloe asked
"Having more kids is definitely going to be a struggle," Kim admits in her confessional. "I've gone through so much with really bad deliveries that the doctors don't feel like it's safe for me to conceive again myself.
This surgery is really the one last thing I can try."
Kim went on to reveal that she's doing it because she wants to give her kids siblings just like she has for herself. Another clip showed Kris and Kim at the doctors where they were taken through the process and the risks involved in the surgery.

Doctors Declare State Of Emergency At The University Of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) Over Infrastructure Decay, Management Irresponsibility

by
The Association of resident Doctors (ARD) University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has declared a State of Emergency at the hospital due to the acute decay of administration procedures and state of equipment in the hospital.

Arising from an emergency general meeting (EGM) held by the association on Monday 27th March 2017 where issues bothering on patient care staff welfare and infrastructure were discussed, the executive of the association led by their president,

Dr. Eustace Oseghale, has declared a state of emergency at the hospital saying that the reality is that patients coming to the hospital cannot be given adequate service.

He said that during the meeting, the ARD congress has noted that after several engagements and pleas the hospital management is yet to ensure adequate patient care and staff welfare.

“The Association intends to bring to the attention of well-meaning Nigerians the unavailability of basic consumables in the hospital, it's of note that surgeons in UBTH have to struggle with the operating tables during surgery and the equipment in the sterilising department are often broken down leaving patients, patient relatives and doctors stranded.

The accident and emergency is not left out as doctors nurses and patients are often found searching for materials to provide care with the patients having to go out to source materials most times,” he said.

He enumerated some of the problems associated with the hospital since the administration of the present Chief Medical Director (CMD), Prof Michael Ibadin, took over the management of the hospital as being very inimical of the oath of service taken by doctors in the profession.

“The call rooms and post graduate library in the hospital are often in darkness and resident doctors on call have to grapple with insects and reptiles in the dark call rooms. Patient care is not the only suffering sector as staff welfare is so bad.
The house officers who just completed their house job are been owed several months of salaries despite been over worked as they were grossly short staffed.
“Some UBTH doctors are still been owed June to august 2013 salaries despite several appeals to the management these salaries have dragged for four years.
UBTH doctors have been paid percentage of salaries for months and despite several appeals to management there is currently no plan to pay the deficits,’ he said.
He went on to reveal that the number of resident doctors in UBTH has reduced from over 600 in 2012 to approximately a third the number now in 2017 this has its attending negative consequences on patient care as less number of doctors available to provide care and the few hands available are overworked and usually fatigued at work.
“It is quite sad as this is not the situation in most other teaching hospitals in the country as employment of doctors and other health care workers goes on simultaneously with adequate remuneration.
Currently UBTH doctors rank very high in the race out of Nigeria to practice in foreign countries for job satisfaction.
The association having discussed these issues of patient care, staff welfare, training and infrastructure with hospital management severally with no solution provided by the hospital management has declared a state of emergency and issued a 21 day ultimatum to the hospital management.” he declared.

He went on to appeal to Nigerians across the country and members of the general public and well-meaning Nigerians to prevail on the management of UBTH to do the needful to ensure adequate health for the good people of Edo state and Nigeria at large.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s New Bust Will Give You Nightmares

by
Real Madrid soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo unveiled an airport named Aeroporto Cristiano Ronaldo in Madeira, Portugal, on Wednesday.

In addition to getting an airport named after himself, the footballer was honored with a bronze bust in his likeness.

Unfortunately, any resemblance between the superstar and the statue was questionable, and social media was quick to call out the lack of similarities.

The Football Ramble called Cristiano’s bronzed face “a new horror movie trope” and Photoshopped his image into some spooky scenes.

Others went with a different movie reference they thought it looked more like Sloth from The Goonies.

The Bleacher Report went a step further and created a short horror-film clip featuring the bust:

This isn’t the first time Cristiano was honored with a statue that didn’t quite capture his look.

A statue displayed in front of his personal museum, Museu CR7, in Funchal, the capital of Madeira, and another version at Madrid’s Museum of Wax sort of, kind of, look like … someone else.

Finally, the ceremony got a little bizarre when a prankster showed up as Batman and tried to steal the show. Guess we can’t all have airports named after ourselves or busts made in our likeness — not even Batman.

Usher Remembers Late Stepson on What Would Have Been His 16th Birthday

by
Usher will always have sweet memories of his stepson Kile Glover.
The singer remembered the boy on Wednesday, which would have been his 16th birthday. Sadly, the child — whose mother was Usher’s first wife, Tameka Foster — died in a Jet Ski accident in July 2012.

“Though you’re gone you still live in my mind,” Usher wrote on Instagram, along with a candid pic of the child smiling at school. “The only thing we ran out of is time.”
He continued, “Since you left I ain’t been quite the same. I wonder if you miss me, do I make you proud. Know you’re watching me, I feel your spirit. I keep you right by my side. #Stronger. Happy 16th Birthday, Kile$. We miss you.”

Foster, whom Usher divorced in 2009, also posted several tributes to her third son (of five). She made it clear that she would be “celebrating” Kile “ALL DAY.”

She also noted that “Kile was the most creative, genius, song bird, both funny and handsome… I’m so grateful for my time with him. I can smile today because I never missed a beat as his Mother. He knew DAILY that I loved him SOOOO much.”

Kile’s death was a heartbreaking tragedy. On July 8, 2012, the 11-year-old was in an inner tube with a female friend on Lake Lanier in Atlanta when Jeffrey S.

Hubbard, a friend of Kile’s father, Ryan Glover, crashed into them with his Jet Ski. The kids were airlifted to a hospital, where Kile registered no brain activity.

A post shared by Tameka Foster (@tamekafoster) on
Tameka had to make the heartbreaking decision to remove her son, whose dad is a TV exec, from life support. (The second victim suffered a broken arm and cut on her head.)

In 2014, Hubbard was sentenced to four years in prison for killing Kile. He was found guilty of homicide by vessel, serious injury by vessel, and unlawful operation of a personal watercraft, with the judge saying he operated the Jet Ski in a “foolish” manner.

When Hubbard is released, he will be on probation for 15 years.

Usher and Tameka, who have two sons together (Usher V, 9, and Naviyd, 8), briefly put aside their lengthy custody battle when Kile died, and Usher attended Kile’s funeral.

Soon afterward, the “Chains” singer, who has since remarried, was awarded primary custody of the boys. He and his ex continue to have a turbulent relationship and avoided another tragedy after the younger Usher, who is called “Cinco,” almost drowned in his father’s pool in 2013.

Lady Gaga Unexpectedly Appears on Cover of ‘Arthritis’ Magazine

by
Lady Gaga is no stranger to elaborate performances and energetic stage routines that take a physical toll on her body. She’s also no stranger to gracing the covers of Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, and Vanity Fair.

At just 31 years old, however, the Grammy-winning singer surprisingly appears on the cover of the latest issue of Arthritis magazine. The headline reads, “Hip Pain Can’t Stop Me.”

In 2013, she cancelled part of the Born This Way Ball in order to get surgery. “I had broken my hip. Nobody knew, and I haven’t even told the fans yet,” she told Woman’s Wear Daily.

“But when we got all the MRIs finished before I went to surgery there were giant craters, a hole in my hip the size of a quarter, and the cartilage was just hanging out the other side of my hip,” Gaga said.

“I had a tear on the inside of my joint and a huge breakage. The surgeon told me that if I had done another show I might have needed a full hip replacement.”

She’s been vocal about her struggles with chronic pain and often keeps fans updated on her condition via Instagram: “Having a frustrating day with chronic pain, but I find myself feeling so blessed to have such strong intelligent female doctors. I think about Joanne too and her strength and the day gets a little easier.”

Behold the Vin Diesel Ham and Cheese Sandwich

by
If you thought that Cristiano Ronaldo statue would be the most bizarre of the week, you’d be very wrong.

A mechanical engineer in Ventura, Calif., has created a bust of Fast and Furious star Vin Diesel made entirely of sandwich toppings plus some googly eyes that are probably plastic — that’s a game-changer.

William Osman regularly posts videos that show him laser cutting, say a pumpkin or a “gingerbread trailer park.” So when a viewer suggested that he challenge himself with the Diesel project, he went with it.
The video that resulted shows Osman laser cutting stacks of ham and cheese in what he called, “the world’s grossest protein puzzle.” They even added mayonnaise!

Meanwhile, Diesel himself spent Wednesday doing something much more Hollywood — promoting the eighth installment of the blockbuster Fast franchise,

Fate of the Furious — at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. He and some of his co-stars, including Charlize Theron and Tyrese Gibson, surprised the crowd with a screening of the flick.

While talking about the movie, Diesel also choked up talking about his late friend Paul Walker, who played the lead role in the series until his 2013 death.

Diesel said he was “reminded of this angel that was so integral to this concept of brotherhood” while making it.
“The irony is when I thought about going into this eighth chapter, it was Paul Walker who promised eight,” said the 49-year-old actor. “I just play it over and over in my brain, him saying, ‘Eight is guaranteed.’ I always feel like he’s looking down on us, so never want to let him down.”
Diesel reportedly has very different feelings about another cast member, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who was noticeably absent for the event.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, that was by design, as Diesel and the Rock are being kept away from each other during the press tour for the movie.

The two feuded during filming, reportedly because Diesel was often late to the set. Their beef became public when the Rock complained about some of his male co-stars being “candy asses” and “chicken s***.”

Now, at least one of them is an actual ham and cheese sandwich. (That was really bad, wasn’t it?)

by
Brazil has officially become the first country to qualify for next year's World cup in Russia after the South American nation defeated Paraguay 3-0 on Wednesday morning, and then watched Peru's inflict a 2-1 victory over Uruguay.

BIRS Seals University Of Agriculture Makurdi Over N2.3B Debt (Photos)

by
By Terna Francis

Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) today, distrained by sealing the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (FUAM) over unremitted Pay As You Earn (PAYE) to the tune of over N2.3 billion.

BIRS Execitive Chairman, Mrs. Mimi Adzape-Orubibi who led an enforcement team to the University early hours of the day, sealed off the Vice Chancellor's office, the office of the Registrar as well as that of the Bursar.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the exercise, Mrs. Adzape-Orubibi said BIRS had to take that step after the institution failed to honour several letters written to it to pay up the outstanding Personal Income Tax from 2007 to 2011.

She explained that the BIRS got a court order to distrain FUAM because it deducted but failed to remit PAYE tax in some cases and under deducted in other cases; adding that the institution would now have to pay about N3 billion inclusive of penalties and interest.

While noting that though, the entire premises would have been sealed, the state government under the leadership of Governor Samuel Ortom is very concerned about education and would not want to render students helpless. She however posited that the decision to seal the institution became necessary owing to the continued evasion of tax by the school authority.

Nigerian Pilot, Ademilola Odujinrin, Makes History As First African To Fly The World Solo

by
A Nigerian pilot who works for Air Djibouti has become the first African pilot in history to fly solo around the world.

According to Punch, the said man identified as Ademilola “Lola” Odujinrin completed the final leg of his historic journey Wednesday afternoon, landing safely at Washington Dulles International Airport.

The pilot has completed the entire circumnavigation in a Cirrus SR22, stopping in more than 15 countries on five continents, returning to Washington DC, where his journey began back in September.

The flight is part of Project Transcend, a foundation which aims to inspire young people to achieve their goals, regardless of their personal circumstances.

Ademilola says:
“Ever since I was a child, I dreamed of one day flying around the world. We have a responsibility to lead by example and follow our dreams. I want African children to think: ‘I can do this too!'”
I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Air Djibouti’s Chairman, Aboubaker Omar Hadi, and Cardiff Aviation’s Chairman, Bruce Dickinson, who have supported me throughout this journey.
Without them, this would not have been possible.”Both formed part of a high-level delegation to welcome the historic aviator on the tarmac at Dulles Airport, including: the Ambassador of Djibouti to the United States,
His Excellency, Mr. Mohamed Siad Doualeh; Senior Director of Strategic Planning for Djibouti Ports & Free Zones Authority, Mr. Dawit Michael Gebre-ab; and Chief Operating Officer of Air Djibouti, Mr. Moussa Houssein.

Other distinguished guests included the CEO Africa World Press, which plans to publish a book on the journey.

Ademilola has logged over 4,000 hours as a commercial Boeing 737 pilot since earning his pilot licence six years ago.

The Chairman of Air Djibouti, Aboubaker Omar Hadi, says: “By supporting initiatives like Lola’s flight around the world, Air Djibouti hopes to inspire a new generation of pilots in Africa and help to pave the way for the aviation industry to thrive in the region.

“The benefits will be felt within the region, as this will encourage more intra-African trade and sustainable economic development.
“With the commencement of the Single African Air Transport Market set for June 2017, air travel in the continent is positioned to grow rapidly and become a key contributor to the region’s economic and social development.”
Globally, the aviation industry represents a massive opportunity for African economies to play a larger role.

It is estimated that 2017 alone will see approximately four billion airline passengers worldwide, as well as over 50 million tonnes of cargo being transported by air.

Rohr Happy With Senegal Draw

by
Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr, is happy with the team after their draw with Senegal in Thursday night’s friendly match at the Hive Stadium in London.
Nigeria played 1-1 in the first of their two preparatory matches for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Africa in June and the Russia 2018 double header against Cameroon in August and September.

Striker Moussa Sow put Senegal, who are ranked second in Africa, in front early in the second half before Kelechi Iheanacho equalised for Nigeria from the penalty spot in the closing minutes of the encounter.

The 1-1 draw meant Rohr has yet to be defeated since taking charge of the Eagles last year. He has led the team to victories in three matches – a 1-0 victory against Tanzania followed by a 2-1 victory against Zambia and a 3-1 win over Algeria.

The Eagles will play Burkina Faso, another physical side, in their second test match on Monday at the same venue.

In a statement from the Nigeria Football Federation on Friday, the former Burkina Faso coach said the result of the tie did not matter as much as the players’ attitude. Rohr said he was pleased with the performance of his players in the friendly given the preparations they had ahead of the match.

He said, “It is never the result that matters in a friendly match; it is the attitude of the players and what they bring to the game. I am satisfied with our whole attitude and the fact that after going down by a goal, we were mentally strong enough to come back and eventually ended the match on a high.

“Considering that we were missing key players like Carl (Ikeme), (Victor) Moses and the captain (Mikel Obi). We also put out a couple of players who had not featured for us before, like (Olanrewaju) Kayode and (Isaac) Success.

“We had to deal with goalkeeping issue and Daniel (Akpeyi) did not have any training with the team. (Ikechukwu) Ezenwa came on the eve of the match and also did not train. It was difficult planning for the game but I am satisfied with what we came up with and how we approached the game.”

He added, “It is a fact that Leon (Balogun), (William) Ekong and Elderson (Echiejile) had not been playing regularly in their clubs, and even Kenneth (Omeruo) who had been active was played in a different role. (Ahmed) Musa and Kelechi (Iheanacho) had also not been playing much. So, it was tough for them at the start but they picked up well and showed good character.

“Our captain (Ogenyi Onazi) went off injured after only 20 minutes. We had to choose between (John) Ogu and (Oghenekaro) Etebo, we opted for Ogu because of the stature of the Senegalese and I think he did well. Now, we know we have some strength-in-depth and that is very good for planning. I am also delighted with the confidence level of Wilfred (Ndidi).”

However, SCORENigeria.com.ng reports that Rohr is unhappy with his players for their failure to match the Senegalese physically in the match.

The German tactician reportedly lashed out at the players after the match for not standing up to the physicality of the Senegalese players. Rohr reportedly criticised his players in the dressing room for failing to give as much as they got from their opponents in terms of the physicality of the match.

Although the Eagles lost stand-in captain, Onazi, and Leicester City forward, Musa, to injuries in the match, the coach was said to have let the players realise that the physical Teranga Lions were selected by Nigeria as part of the Eagles build-up for the World Cup double-header against an equally physical Cameroon.

“The coach criticised the boys in the dressing room after the match for being too timid. He wanted them to fight more,” the source told SCORENigeria.com.ng.

“The players don’t know how physical it could get, especially the new boys. But the great thing is that the match was a good preparation for Cameroon. It was the classic baptism of fire.”

Meanwhile, former Eagles players, Taribo West and Friday Ekpo, have advised the team to step up their game against the Burkinabes on Monday.

They said the result of the Senegal match was fair enough but want the team to work harder as they would meet stiffer opponents in the Cameroonians.

“The result was good enough for a friendly considering that Senegal are a very physical side and our boys are just learning the ropes of playing against physical opponents,” West told our correspondent.

“The coach did well to bring in a blend of new and old players in the match and for two players to have gotten injured in the game showed that the Senegalese did not take it easy on the Eagles. They should also work harder for the Burkina Faso match and get a better result than this because that will show what they can do against a tougher Cameroonian side.”

Ekpo said, “Burkina Faso are also physical – I think a little bit more physical than Senegal, judging by their playing style at the last Nations Cup. The result against Senegal is not bad but the coach should note the players that can do the job when we play physical opponents.

“The ultimate goal of the two friendlies is to prepare well for the Cameroon match which will determine our World Cup qualifying status. A good outing on Monday will boost the team’s spirit ahead of their next gathering for the matches.”

Women’s league begins today

by
The 2016/17 Nigeria Women Football League season will get underway on Saturday (today) with a star match at the Akure Stadium.
The season opener will feature Sunshine Queens against Ibom Angels while the other fixtures for the first week of the new season will hold on March 29.

With the withdrawal of Lagos based COD United Ladies, the 15 teams in the league will play in two groups. Group A has Sunshine, Ibom Angels, Rivers Angels, Robo Queens, Heartland Queens, Capital City Doves and Bayelsa Queens. Group B has Nasarawa Amazons, Osun Babes, Delta Queens, Confluence Queens, Adamawa Queens, Edo Queens, Pelican Stars and Saadatu Kolo Amazons.

The NWPFL during the week gave leave to the players of the disbanded COD Ladies to seek new clubs where they will play for the new season.

Much is expected from the new board of the NWPFL led by CAF media committee member, Aisha Falode.

They are expected to ensure a successful organisation of the league without the rancour which greeted the previous seasons of the league. They are also tasked with the development of the women’s segment of the sport.

Falode believes the task is achievable but will take a while.

“It’s our duty to look at the structure and see how women’s football in Nigeria gets the needed attention and affinity with the audience. Women’s football has what it takes to enjoy some feasibility with the men’s game but it’s going to take a while,” she said.
“The point is that everyone believes we have done the same thing over and over again. It’s time to adopt a new approach when going forward. We need to look at a new strategy that we think would work. That’s basically what this new board is all about.”
She added, “In the past the league didn’t have a stable calendar and clubs weren’t obeying the laid down rules and regulation. The game is all about rules and regulations. We will continue to dialogue with clubs and hope that they come through the open door of our good intentions for the league for clarification on grey areas.”

by
President Muhammadu Buhari will on Monday visit the Sambisa Forest to declare open the Nigerian Army Small Arms Championship 2017.
The forest was the stronghold and strategic headquarters of the Boko Haram sect until they were pushed out by the military in December 2016.

During the visit, President Buhari will be accompanied by the Minister of Defense, Alhaji Mansur Ali; Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olanisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai; Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar Sadique, and Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Obet Ebas.

Chief of Training and Operations, Army, Major General David Amadu, during a press briefing on Friday in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, said a number of activities had been lined up to mark the championship including medical outreach to Bama, Konduga, and Magumeri IDPs’ camps, educational training for Army Education Corps in Maiduguri, security awareness meetings with the traditional rulers and distribution of relief materials to IDPs within the capital and surrounding towns.

He explained that the championship was aimed at testing and shaping the intelligence and professional capacity of the Nigerian Army officers and soldiers.

He said it was also to put the Sambisa Forest into proper use and turn it into Nigerian Army training ground as roads and bridges had been constructed and opened to enable them to test arms, ammunition and equipment.

He, however, appealed to members of the public to cooperate with the Nigerian Army during the championship, pointing out that adequate arrangements had been made to ensure the protection of lives and property within and around the defined range of the demonstration.

Meanwhile, troops of the Nigerian Army uncovered and destroyed a factory used by the Boko Haram insurgents to produce Improvised Explosive Devices in the Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.

Our correspondent learnt that the troops of 103 Battalion under Operation Lafiya Dole made the discovery at Gombole village during clearance operations. They also rescued four women and six children abducted by the terrorists.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Sani Usman, said the troops also killed an unspecified number of Boko Haram members in the Gombole operation.

Our victim didn’t have N10m, so we took his heart – Murder suspects

by
Four suspects have been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command for killing a trader, Akintoye Oyeyemi, and removing his heart for ritual purposes
Commissioner of Police in the state, Abiodun Odude, said while parading the suspects at the state police command, Eleiyele, Ibadan that two of the suspects, Gbenga Babalade, 40, and Tunde Jimoh, 37, killed the victim in a cashew plantation farm in Ajase-Ipo, Kwara State, believing that he had N10m with him.

He said after killing him, they found only N100,000 with him and decided to remove his heart and other body parts in order to do money ritual. Both had before the killing, contacted an acclaimed Alfa, Ahmed Olatunji 42, through a herbalist, Agboola Abubakar, 65, who told them that if they could get a human heart, he would prepare a potion with it that would make them rich.

He said, “To carry out their evil plan, Jimoh and Babalade under the pretext of doing business on February 24, 2017, lured the victim and robbed him of N100,000 before killing him with a gun. They removed his heart, severed his head and wrists for ritual.

“After the victim’s wife reported that her husband was missing at Atiba police station in Oyo, the anti-kidnapping squad of the command investigated his disappearance and during investigation, Abubakar was arrested, leading to three more arrests.”

The victim was said to be discussing N10m deal with a cashew trader, Olayinka Babalade, who is one of the suspect’s brothers when his alleged murderers heard about it and laid an ambush for him.

Babalade said, “I helped my brother in cashew business. The person we killed was a partner to my brother. He came to discuss a deal with him and I heard about it. The deceased said he would bring N10m when he returned to complete the deal. I conspired with my friend who was around to rob him at Ajase-Ipo.

“We picked him up at a location with a motorcycle and took him to a plantation. We thought he would have all the N10m but we only found N100,000 on him. Then my friend shot him, saying that he had to do it because the victim had recognised us. We later decided to remove his heart for the money ritual which was our initial plan. When we got to the Alfa, he said he could not do it again for us. He chased us away and told us to throw away the head and pour alcohol on the other body parts.”

Jimoh said he introduced Babalade to the herbalist, Agboola, and that he had earlier taken money from Babalade to help him find a human heart for the ritual but failed to get one. He admitted killing the victim with a gun and helped remove his heart and other body parts.

Appeal court nullifies Ondo ex-deputy gov’s impeachment

by
The Appeal Court sittin.g in Akure, the Ondo State capital on Friday nullified the impeachment of the former deputy governor of the state, Alhaji Ali Olanusi

Olanusi who was the deputy governor of the immediate former governor of the state, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, was impeached by the Ondo State House of Assembly in 2015 for alleged gross misconduct.

He also joined the All Progressives Congress shortly before the presidential election in 2015, before his impeachment.

The 79-page judgement by Justice Muhammed Danjuma was delivered at about 5pm on Friday.

The court held that the impeachment of Olanusi was not in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution and was not given a fair hearing.

He ordered that all privileges and entitlements due to the former deputy governor from the time of his removal from office till 24 February this year, when his tenure was supposed to expire should be restored.

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos had earlier struck out the case filed by Olanusi to challenge his impeachment on the grounds that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case.

I asked Davido to wear condom but he refused –Alleged baby mama

by
Last week, in an exclusive chat with Saturday Beats, mother of one, Ayomide Labinjo, had alleged that pop singer, Davido, is the father of her three-year-old child, Anuoluwapo.
In another exclusive interview with Saturday Beats, Ayomide said they would not have been in this paternity mess, “if only Davido had listened to me and worn a condom.”

When asked why she would allow anybody to have unprotected sex with her, Ayomide alleged that the singer was not a fan of wearing condoms during sex as she recounted in details what allegedly transpired the two times she alleged they had sex.

The young lady claimed, “The reason I slept with him the first time we met was because I just wanted to catch my fun. The day we met at the club, Ebevande,

I was with my friends, I did not really know him then but I just knew he was an artiste. I went out with my female friends; we had like a ladies night out; then one of his bouncers came to meet me and told me that his boss wanted to see me.

I actually thought it was the owner of the club that wanted to see me. When I got to where they were, I noticed that it was David and he was with B. Red. I greeted both of them, B. Red did not respond but David did and we talked. He collected my pin and asked me to return to my seat.

When they were about to leave, the bouncer came to meet me again and informed me that they wanted to leave. My friends thought we were all going together but when we all got to the car, he asked my friends to go back. He said that I was the one he wanted to see.

“We went to the Genesis Hotel. When we got to the room, we talked for a long while before we had sex. He is a very jovial person and he loves talking. He made me laugh a lot and we talked at length. B. Red was in the other room.

I insisted that he should protect himself by wearing a condom before sex but he refused. He said that he does HIV test every two weeks. Then I asked him how sure he was that I did not have any disease but he said he was very sure I did not have a disease.

After he had said all that, I told him to just do what he wanted to do and allow me go home in the morning. That night, he had sex with me twice.

You would know he was in the mood to have sex that night and it lasted for a while. He has a big manhood and it hurt me a little. The second time was when he noticed I was leaving in the morning and he just wanted to have sex with me again.

“The second time, the sex did not last long because he was very tired and he did not even know when I left the hotel. I do not drink or smoke but David drinks and smokes. He drank and smoked in the club” she alleged.

Labinjo told Saturday Beats that she was shocked that Davido said he gave her money as she claimed she had never received a dime from the singer since they met. In her words, she described the self-acclaimed Omo Baba Olowo as “a very stingy person.”

“I saw where he said he sent money to my family and that is a lie. The question I would ask is that what account did he pay the money into?

He should bring out the bank teller. He has never given me money. If they said they have given me money, there would be a record or evidence and they should bring it out.

Even when we had sex, he never gave me money for transport. David is a very stingy person and I would not be the first person saying this. I have heard it from different girls, David is very stingy,” she said.

When asked if she was certain that the pop star is the father of her child, she answered in the affirmative. She claimed as of the time they met, she did not have a boyfriend and she is not one to jump from one bed to another.

Labinjo said, “I am very sure he is the father of my child because I did not have a boyfriend when we met. I had some male friends but it was just a platonic relationship I had with them and nothing serious.

I don’t jump from one bed to another and that is why I am very bold and certain that he is the father of my child. If I had been sleeping around, I would not be that bold to talk.”

She was quick to add that all she wanted was for the singer to step forward for another DNA test. Labinjo said that even if the result shows that Davido is the father of her child, she doubts mutual love would co-exist between them because of the way he has treated her all these years.

The mother of one also hinted that the matter may soon be taken to court.

“I just want him to take up his responsibility but I heard he is not ready for another DNA. My mother has gone to a lawyer and we would eventually go to court because I know we have a good case.

I was told that even if David does not want to step out for a DNA, any of his siblings could step in for him. Once everything is settled, I just want him to take care of his daughter but there cannot be mutual love between us. Even the way he talks to me cannot allow for mutual love,” she said.

Meanwhile, in a chat with Sunday Punch, Davido’s manager, Asa Asika, had reportedly said, “Davido is not the father of the baby.”

When asked if the singer would be willing to undergo another DNA test, he retorted, “He is not going for another DNA test.

After all, a test was conducted and it turned out negative. DNA tests are never wrong. Davido had never met her before she showed up at his house claiming that he is the father of her child. She is just an opportunist looking for quick money and fame.”

Ife clash: IGP justifies arrest of only Yoruba suspects

by
The Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris, on Friday justified the arrest of only suspects of Yoruba extraction over the recent clash between Yoruba and Hausa communities in Ile-Ife, Osun State, which resulted in the death of about 46 persons.
He said crime neither had tribe nor identity.

Idris spoke with State House correspondents shortly after briefing President Muhammadu Buhari on the security situation in parts of the country.

The police have been the subject of criticism for arresting and parading 20 Yoruba persons, including a monarch, over the clash while not a single Hausa/Fulani person was detained, even though both groups involved in the clash were said to have had casualties.

The pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere; and the Oodua People’s Congress are among groups and individuals that have been criticising the police over the development.

The OPC had on Thursday, in a statement by its founder, Dr. Frederick Fasehun, given the Federal Government and the police 48 hours to arrest the Hausa/Fulani persons involved in the crisis.

Idris, however, defended the action of the police, saying crime had no tribes.

He said the police would not hesitate to apply the law once criminal cases were established against individuals, irrespective of their tribes.

He said, “You know we are police officers. Crime has no tribe. If you are a criminal, you are a criminal.

“Crime has no face. We don’t look at crime in the identity of where you are coming from.

“As far as you are a criminal and the police find you wanting, we apply the law.”

He said investigation had revealed that the crisis started with a disagreement between two people selling food along the road.

On the massacre in Zaki Biam, Benue State, Idris said he had deployed police special units to arrest one of the men declared wanted in connection with the case.

“We have deployed Mobile Police Unit on 16th of this month and of recent that incident that happened at Zaki Biam, there are allegations on that Gana, one of the wanted men.

“This man has been on the police wanted list and I have decided to deploy some special unit to go after him and get him by all means.

“Like I said earlier, definitely, we are going to get that man,” he said.

Idris also said the latest attack was not carried out by Fulani herdsmen.

“No, I don’t think it was Fulani herdsmen. It was an activity of a criminal using some of his criminal gangs in the state to harass people,” he added.

The police boss also said the crisis in Kogi State was not about kidnapping.

He said it was a case of militants who were bent on disrupting the peace of the state.

He promised that the police would handle the situation.

Idris said he used the opportunity of his meeting with Buhari to update him on police’s efforts to ensure security across the country.

He said, “The meeting was to share with the President our deployment strategies on the ground; our deployment in some of these flashpoints all over the country, especially Benue, which is the current one.

“We also talked about deployment in Kaduna State, which started some few weeks back and deployment in Ile-Ife, where we have a lot of police officers. Special squads and investigation team are on the ground to conduct investigation on the matter.”

The police boss said the President directed him to ensure that all facilities at police’s disposal were used to make sure that the security challenges were brought under control as soon as possible.

He said he assured the President that he would ensure that was done.

Meanwhile, some Yoruba elders; the OPC; and an Igbo think tank, Aka Ikenga, have criticised Idris’ justification of the arrest, describing it as capable of destabilising the country.

A Yoruba elder statesman, Ayo Adebanjo, expressed disappointment with the IGP’s defence, saying the arrests were biased towards Hausa/Fulani.

He said, “It is unfortunate that the person who calls himself the IGP has no apology for doing injustice. If he agrees that two sections were fighting and two sections suffered casualties, is he saying the indigenes of Ile-Ife killed themselves and destroyed their own properties?

“Yes, a criminal is a criminal but I am asking him, are the criminals only from one side when there are victims from both sides?”

Adebanjo, therefore, urged northerners to prevail on the President and the IGP “to stop playing with fire.”

“This is not the time for ethnic crisis in this country because we have a lot on our hands. Those of us who are sincere about having peace in the country are worried about this, but it appears that the oppressors are not bothered.

“It is a shame and I am calling on northerners, particularly the good elements among them, to warn these people not to provoke the Yoruba people,” he said.

A former Minister of Education, Prof. Tunde Adeniran, said he had not read Idris’ defence, but noted that the “IGP’s job is to protect everybody irrespective of where they come from.”

“And in the execution of his duties, one would expect him to be very impartial. He was not appointed as the IG of a section of the country, but IG for the Nigerian nation,” he added.

Founder of Aka Ikenga, Oscar Onwudiwe, described the situation as not only worrisome but detrimental to the unity and stability of Nigeria as a whole.

Onwudiwe, a lawyer, said with the one-sided arrests made by the police and the comments of the Inspector General, it was evident that there were instructions from above not to touch persons of Hausa/Fulani ethnicity involved in the Ile-Ife clash.

Onwudiwe said, “The latest incident is a confirmation of what many of us already know. Since this administration came on board, there has been a clear difference in how a certain people are treated. The conduct and statement of the IGP go to show that indeed, there is an order from above not to touch the Hausa/Fulani involved in the Ile-Ife crisis. Otherwise I don’t know why only the Yoruba should be arrested after the clash.

“Before Buhari came on board, herdsmen had been moving their cattle around different parts of the country without causing problem, but going by the level of destruction they have caused over the last two years, it is as if there is a new agenda to silence anyone who raises a voice against their nefarious activities. Under Buhari, it is a clear case of some animals being more equal than others.”

The National Coordinator, OPC, Gani Adams, who also faulted the IGP over his justification of the arrest of only the Yoruba people in the crisis, said the police boss should know it was “impossible to defend such an arrest” when two ethnic groups were involved in the clash.

While calling on President Buhari to caution the IG, Adams pointed out that if such could happen in Ile-Ife, the cradle of the Yoruba race, then worse things could happen in other towns.

He said, “If we don’t raise our voice now, worse things might happen. That is why we are calling for restructuring because we cannot continue like this. The Hausa people operate with psychological confidence because when they kill people, nothing happens.

“Look at the case of Mile 12 in Lagos last year, where many Yoruba people were killed; why didn’t the IGP parade Hausa people like he’s doing to Yoruba people now? What of Agatu in Benue where hundreds have been killed so far?

“We are not against the police arresting Yoruba people who were found culpable, but we are saying there should be no bias. If there is no evidence of the Yoruba person that was killed, is the police saying Ile-Ife people also burnt their own houses?”

Following the clash in Ile-Ife, the Assistant Inspector- General of Police, Zone 2, Kayode Aderanti, on Thursday held a security meeting with ethnic group leaders in Sagamu, Ogun State.

The theme of the meeting was: “The need to live together in peace.”

This move, he said, was part of a proactive measure to promote peaceful co-existence among the different ethnic groups in the state.

While addressing the large gathering of different ethnic groups living in Sagamu, Aderanti, who lamented the Ile-Ife crisis, said, “Sagamu has the largest concentration of ethnic groups in the country. We want everyone to live in peace; we want you to live as brothers and sisters.”

Dino Melaye’s certificates scandal deepens

by
The qualification scandal that has enveloped the senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District at the upper chamber of the National Assembly, Dino Melaye, has deepened.
Documents obtained exclusively by Saturday PUNCH through painstaking and thorough investigations showed that the embattled senator has a Bachelor of Arts certificate in Geography from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State.

The senator, apart from bagging a third class, also possesses a diploma certificate from the University of Jos.

However, the senator only has a statement of results from ABU. And not only that, checks at the university revealed that it only offers B.Sc. Geography and not B.A. Geography as reflected on Melaye’s statement of results.
Melaye’s trouble began on Monday, March 20, 2017 when an online news medium, Sahara Reporters, in a tweet alleged that the senator did not graduate from ABU for his first degree, against his claim that he studied Geography in the prestigious institution.

The news medium also alleged that Melaye, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory, bribed his Head of Department, who assisted him to forge his transcript.

In a series of tweets via its Twitter handle, @SaharaReporters, the online news medium said some lecturers in the Geography Department insisted that Melaye did not graduate from the department and that his name was not on the graduation list because he failed five compulsory courses.

Following the report, which gained traction speedily, Melaye dismissed the allegations, daring the news medium to sue him if it had authentic evidence to back its claims.

He took to his twitter handle and wrote, “Sahara Reporters, please sue me and ABU if it is true that I did not graduate from Zaria. Tell Magu (EFCC Chairman) to arrest and prosecute me.”

Melaye also boasted that he was currently a student in ABU pursuing his seventh degree, adding, “Go round all the UNIS (universities) I attended in digging more.”

A day after the news broke, Melaye, while speaking on the floor of the Senate, also addressed himself as an “authentic graduate” of ABU.

Meanwhile, when The PUNCH contacted ABU to verify the conflicting information, the institution’s Information Officer, Adamu Mohammed, promised that the institution would come out with its position on Wednesday, which it failed to do as of the time of filing this report.

Amid the controversy, documents obtained by Saturday PUNCH revealed that the senator had a statement of results with the logo of ABU.

The statement of results read, “This is to certify that Daniel Jonah Melaye having completed an approved course of study and passed the prescribed examinations as, under the authority of the Senate been awarded the Bachelor of Arts (Geography) with Third Class honours.”

The statement, issued by the Office of the Registrar, Academic Office and dated February 3, 2000, was signed by B.B. Mshelthlila.

There are, however, certain discrepancies that beg for more clarifications. For instance, in the statement of results, his name was given as “Daniel Jonah MELAYE.” However, checks by one of our correspondents on https://abu.edu.ng/ revealed that Geography is in the Faculty of Science and not the Faculty of Arts as reflected in the statement of results.

Also, in the senator’s NYSC discharge certificate, which was issued on July 8, 2001, his name read “Melaye Daniel” and not Daniel Jonah as shown in the statement of results.

Also, in the diploma certificate issued to him by the University of Jos on August 3, 2006, his name read “Daniel Dino Melaye.”

He was issued an Advanced Diploma certificate in Law, Security and Conflict Resolution. He finished with ‘Lower Credit’ on August 3, 2006.

However, in his Senior School Certificate in 1992, his name read ‘Melaiye Daniel Jonah O.’ with Melaye being wrongly spelt.

In the result, he had P8 in English Language, P8 in Mathematics, P8 in Geography, P8 in Chemistry, C5 in Christian Religious Knowledge, P7 in Economics, C6 in Biology and B3 in Agric Science.
When contacted again by one of our correspondents on his mobile telephone on Friday evening, the Information Officer, ABU, Mr. Adamu Mohammed, sounded hostile.

“Please, this is not official time; call me tomorrow, thank you, goodnight,” he said and hung up.

It will be recalled that in furtherance to his defence, Melaye had reportedly claimed that he obtained degrees from the prestigious Harvard University, London School of Economics and Political Science and a post-graduate degree from the University of Jos.

But in a swift response to an enquiry, Harvard University, in a statement from the Registrar’s office, on Thursday noted that Melaye was not a graduate of the institution as he only completed a week-long leadership seminar in November 2016.

The London School of Economics equally responded on Thursday, saying there was no proof on the institution’s database that Melaye obtained any degree from the school.

But on Thursday, he filed a N5bn libel suit against Sahara Reporters at a FCT High Court. Meanwhile, given the Senate’s decision to investigate the allegation and the uproar the report had generated, Melaye had since taken to the social media to exonerate himself of all the allegations.
Moments after he filed the suit, he took to the social media to post pictures of the cover and certification pages of his Master’s project, and a group picture of his days as a corps member, even though he was the only one not in uniform.

He wore a white T-shirt and blue shorts, adding that he served in Kaduna State in 1999. The caption on the picture read, “ABU 99 set at NYSC camp in KD. Me in blue shorts.”

Also, on Friday, Wikipedia, had edited Melaye’s profile to include ‘Certificate Scandal’, which briefly chronicled the issues surrounding the ongoing certificate brouhaha.
