The two forwards have been compared to one another ever since their early dominance of the Ballon d'Or award, a dominance that has lasted 10 years already.
Messi, who, like Ronaldo, has five Ballon d'Or titles to his name, was recently asked about his relationship with the Portugal international.
"Friendship is something constructed by spending time together," he said, according to Sport.
"We don't have a relationship because we only see each other on prize nights, that's the only time we talk.
"Everything is fine but our lives don't cross paths that often."
While Ronaldo has scored 20 goals across all competitions for Los Blancos so far this season, Messi has hit the back of the net on 27 occasions for the Catalan giants.
