Defence Minister, Masur Dan-Ali
This is according to the Minister of Defence, Brigadier General Masur Dan-Ali (rtd), who said the military would carry out its duties diligently, even though its men continue to pay the supreme price. He spoke on Thursday in Abuja at an event set aside to mark the begin of the 2018 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration.
“Just like the case of the unfortunate civil war, keeping Nigeria one continues to be the task of our armed forces. The Nigerian military has always risen to the challenge whenever called upon to do so,” he said.
“The relative peace enjoyed in the North East today, with the return of civil institutions, internally displaced persons, and rebuilding of the destroyed infrastructure are a result of the sacrifices of men and women of our armed forces.”The minister said the Federal Government is happy with the unwavering sacrifice and loyalty of soldiers in the protection of the nation’s territorial integrity and unity.
He also promised government’s unflinching commitment to improving their welfare and would always remember the memories of the fallen heroes.
Dan-Ali said, “We, therefore, owe it a binding duty to remember and honour their (fallen soldiers) collective memories.
“One may be very sure and to manifest way of remembering and honouring these memories is by ensuring that the families they left behind are not being abandoned.”
